Season 2 wasn't terrible altogether.

Released only a couple of days ago, the highly anticipated finale of And Just Like That… Season 2 delighted viewers with a cameo from one of Sex and the City's most beloved stars, Kim Cattrall. The Samantha actress had unfortunately been absent from all of the sequel's previous episodes, and that fact upset fans of the parent series quite a bit.

And while the second installment of AJLT was fairly mediocre in writing quality and character development, people were thrilled to see Cattrall's Samantha come back, if only for a small scene in the finale.

Speaking of the show's quality, a lot of fans were disappointed with AJLT when it premiered its first season in 2021. With the main characters growing older and lots of changes taking place in their lives, it seemed strange that the women continued to act like they used to on SATC (except maybe for Miranda, who decided to reinvent herself sexually in the sequel).

Besides, the show has introduced several new characters who felt foreign to the plot, and some of the fans continued to watch it just because they were attached to the original SATC, but admittedly did not feel much connection to the sequel story.

In addition to Cattrall's long-awaited cameo, the second season got one thing right in the protagonist's personal life – and fans couldn't be more grateful for that.

Aidan and Carrie's relationship came to its logical end

John Corbett's Aidan Shaw and Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw were an on-again-off-again couple on Sex and the City. In fact, their relationship was so complicated on SATC that the man is simultaneously dubbed Carrie's best and worst partner. In the end, the two were just too different to stay together, so they parted ways.

Eventually, Parker's character married Mr. Big who, if you think about it, was basically like her male version. After Mr. Big died at the beginning of AJLT, Aidan was reintroduced to the franchise in Season 2, and he and Carrie hit it off again.

However, Aidan was still married and couldn't give up on his family to be with Carrie. He realized Bradshaw wouldn't welcome his children into her life, so the two split up again for good.

So to fans, this felt like a heartbreaking but still satisfying finale to the couple's love story. Carrie and Aidan certainly looked great together, as both are interesting people and compelling characters, but they could not possibly adjust to each other's differences – neither in the past, nor today in the sequel series.

Somewhat paradoxically, the characters' split-up arc seems to be the only great writing decision the creators made in Season 2 – that and Samantha's appearance, for sure.
