Cameras are rolling as filming gets underway, according to reports.

Well, here is a curveball I did not have on my 2025 bingo card: Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik are reportedly teaming up for a Netflix road-trip docuseries. Yes, Louis and Zayn, together, in a car, talking One Direction and everything around it.

The project, as it stands

The Sun was first to float the idea that cameras are already rolling as the former bandmates travel across the US, swapping stories from their 1D days and catching up on life post-boyband. Usual tabloid caveats apply, but Deadline backed up a key piece of the puzzle: director Nicola Marsh is attached, with Campfire Studios producing and Ross Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans on board as executive producers. RadioTimes says Netflix has been approached for comment, but there is no official word from the streamer yet.

What we know so far

  • Who: Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik
  • What: A Netflix docuseries built around a US road trip and candid conversations about their lives and One Direction memories
  • Status: Filming has reportedly begun
  • Not expected to appear: Harry Styles and Niall Horan
  • Team: Director Nicola Marsh; executive producers Ross Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans for Campfire Studios
  • Official comment: Netflix has been asked for comment; no confirmation yet

The Liam Payne context

Multiple reports suggest the series will also address the death of their bandmate Liam Payne, who died in 2024 at 31. When the news broke, the members of One Direction shared a joint message that pretty much said what everyone was feeling.

"We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing... The memories we shared will be treasured forever."

The BRIT Awards 2025 paid tribute too. Host Jack Whitehall paused the show to remember Payne, calling him someone who meant a lot to people in the room and to millions watching around the world. He reflected on the shock of losing him last October, and on how much Payne accomplished in a short time, both as a musician and as a person who made a genuine impact.

"Last October, we woke to the devastating news that Liam Payne had tragically passed away."

"He achieved so much in the short time that he was on this earth, and was not only a supremely gifted musician, but an incredibly kind soul who touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with."

A little inside baseball

If the Marsh/Dinerstein/Campfire combo sticks, expect something polished and structured rather than a loose vlog-on-wheels. That said, the premise is intimate by design: two guys with a very specific shared history, in a car, talking it out. If they keep it honest, it could be compelling in ways most glossy music docs are not.

So, when can we watch?

No premiere window yet. If Netflix stamps this as official soon, we will likely get a title and a teaser first, then a date. Until then, consider this a high-profile project in motion, with the promise (and baggage) that comes with revisiting One Direction from the inside.
