Assassin's Creed Shadows Tipped for Switch 2 in Early December — But Can It Outshine Metroid Prime 4 Dropping the Day Before?

So many options, so little clarity: from shelves to screens to ballots, abundance is the new bottleneck—rewriting who gets noticed, what gets bought and who gets elected.
Assassin's Creed Shadows on Nintendo's next console? Not exactly a shocker. But now we may have a date, a price, and even how Ubisoft plans to package it on Switch 2. None of this is official yet, but the breadcrumb trail is getting pretty obvious.
The new leak: date, price, and format
Trusted leaker Bilbil-kun posted on French site Dealabs saying they are confident the Switch 2 version of Assassin's Creed Shadows is the real deal and that it will get a physical release. The catch: that physical copy would be a game-key card, not a traditional cartridge, mirroring how Ubisoft handled Star Wars Outlaws on the platform.
The claimed specifics:
- Release date: December 5, 2025
- Price: around €50
- Pre-orders: expected to go live by November 7, 2025
- Format: physical game-key card, not a full cartridge
Why this was always likely
This has been creeping toward inevitable for months. Back in April, PEGI briefly listed a Switch 2 port of Shadows. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also teased that new versions would arrive on other machines, which is corporate-speak for: yes, more platforms are coming. Then last week, French retailer Auchan put up a listing with box art mocked up specifically for Switch 2. Add all that together and today's leak lands more like a confirmation than a surprise.
About that game-key card
If you hate game-key cards, I get it. But Ubisoft has already hinted at why they might go this route on Nintendo's next box. When asked about Star Wars Outlaws on the platform, one developer plainly explained:
"Standard cartridges simply didn't give the performance we needed."
If that limitation applies broadly, it would explain Shadows getting the same treatment.
What is and is not official
Ubisoft has not announced Assassin's Creed Shadows for Switch 2 yet. Dealabs could not pin down when that reveal will happen either, just that pre-orders should pop by early November. So, standard leak disclaimer: treat the date and price as solid-but-not-final until Ubisoft or Nintendo says so.
The extra wrinkle: that canceled AC project
Separate from the Shadows port chatter, there is another report making the rounds: a different Assassin's Creed game, set in post–Civil War America, was allegedly canceled. The reason given was a mix of fallout from the Yasuke discourse around Shadows and the current U.S. political climate, described internally as "too political in a country too unstable." It is a striking claim, and it adds a little context to how cautious Ubisoft might be feeling around certain settings right now.
Bottom line: all signs point to Assassin's Creed Shadows hitting Switch 2 on December 5, 2025 for about €50, likely as a game-key card. We are just waiting on Ubisoft to make it official.
