This character has a long way to go to become a truly likable person.

Summary

  • Bridgerton fans are thrilled about Colin and Penelope's romance in Season 3.
  • Another Bridgerton needs proper development this season.
  • Her relationship with one of the leads could be the key to her growth.

One of the most recognizable features of Bridgerton is its focus on a particular member of the titular family. Season 1 centered on Daphne Bridgerton and her passionate romance with Duke Simon Basset. Season 2 followed Anthony Bridgerton and his love story with Kate Sharma. But this pattern doesn't necessarily mean that the Netflix show doesn't tell the stories of other characters.

Over the course of Bridgerton's two-season run, the period drama has explored the arcs of Penelope Featherington, aka the author of the Ton's gossip column Lady Whistledown, and Eloise Bridgerton, the show's fan-favorite maverick, in addition to the aforementioned characters.

Now that Season 3 will revolve around Pen and her relationship with Colin Bridgerton, many viewers are wondering what will become of Eloise.

Plenty of Room for Character Growth

Although Eloise Bridgerton is a supporting character, her popularity with the audience exceeds that of many Bridgerton leads. She is feisty and bold. She is nonconformist and strong-willed. And she is deadly blunt. All of these qualities define Eloise's status as one of Bridgerton's ultimate fan favorites. But as always, there are two sides to every coin.

At times, Eloise's feistiness can come across as audacity, her willfulness as stubbornness, and her bluntness as arrogance and disrespect. Moreover, the second Bridgerton sister proves to be rather critical of everyone and everything – a real downer, if we are to use the modern term. Needless to say, she is a very immature character considering these traits.

For this reason, it is crucial that Eloise gets some character development in Season 3. After all, it can only be fun to follow such a snarky person for a while before she becomes unbearable and loses her appeal to the audience.

Peloise as a Means of Character Development

Bridgerton fans are looking forward to Season 3 not only because of Penelope and Colin's love story. The upcoming installment will explore Pen and Eloise's relationship after they had a serious falling out at the end of Season 2 when Eloise learned that her best friend was actually Lady Whistledown.

In the trailer, we see that she holds a grudge against Penelope and has even befriended Cressida Cowper, Pen's bully, probably to spite her best friend.

Perhaps the key to Eloise's character development lies in her relationship with Penelope. Perhaps her love for Pen will make Eloise reflect on her own behavior, actions, and views, which will spark her transformation into a more mature person who accepts the choices of others. Perhaps…

We'll see what becomes of Eloise when Season 3 of Bridgerton premieres on May 16.
