Are Meemaw and Dr Sturgis Getting Back Together in Young Sheldon?

CBS' Young Sheldon has already proven to be just as good as The Big Bang Theory, thanks in no small part to all the exciting new characters introduced in the spin-off, including various relatives of Sheldon and friends of the Cooper household. Some of the characters who first appeared on the original show also became much deeper and more compelling in the prequel, including Meemaw.

Sheldon's beloved grandmother became a force to be reckoned with thanks to Young Sheldon, not the original sitcom.

People were thrilled to see her not as a frail elderly woman, but as a woman at the height of her powers, dating interesting men and supporting Sheldon in his every decision. However, fans are less enthusiastic about Meemaw's current flame, Dale Ballard, and wish that her former boyfriend, Dr. John Sturgis, played by Wallace Shawn, would reconnect with her.

Sturgis is a genius scientist and a great inspiration to Sheldon, and Meemaw was totally in love with him in the early seasons. When they broke up and she started dating Dale, many viewers began to think of her new flame as just a placeholder. However, three seasons have passed and Meemaw and Dale are still together, so fans are treating her new boyfriend with a little more love than before.

'I was fully expecting Dale to just be a placeholder boyfriend till Sturgis came to his senses. That was 3 seasons ago. They've given him so many potential outs but he keeps coming back and by this point, I've actually kind of started to like him,' one fan said.

Also, people feel that Dale and Meemaw are simply a better match than she ever was with Sturgis, since the doctor was far too sensitive and intellectual for Meemaw's tastes.

'Her relationship with Dale is more natural for who she is. Based on what we know about her husband, he was also a bit cantankerous. It's a dynamic she knows,' another fan argued.

In any case, it looks like Meemaw and Sturgis will never date again. The writers of Young Sheldon are clearly more interested in making their new relationship work than in wasting time on two different characters who never were a particularly good match for each other, according to fans.

Young Sheldon Season 6 Episode 21 and 22 will arrive on CBS on May 18, 2023.
