When you become friends with the actor from Friends.

What we love more than celebrity drama are the adorable celebrity friendships. After all, these stories are always uplifting and can brighten our day and make us smile at the screen. Every social media post of celebrities goofing around is a real treat.

And the other day, Ed Sheeran published a post sharing a snippet from a song that will appear on his upcoming album, Autumn Variations. Notably, the song is dedicated to none other than... Courteney Cox! But under what circumstances did the pop legend and the TV legend get to know each other, and are they really friends?

A warm serenade

On September 21, Ed Sheeran published an incredibly sweet post on his personal Instagram account featuring Courteney Cox. The musician dedicated his Friends-inspired song American Town, which will appear on his new album, to her.

'We ate Chinese food in small white boxes / Live the life we saw in Friends / Your room it barely fits the mattress / Wake up, leave for work again / The wind it seems to blow right through us / Down jackets are the trend / the rush of rushin' deep into love,' Sheeran's new song lyrics read.

One can only envy the closeness of their friendship, as Courtney jokingly asked, 'Do I get paid?'

A decade of friendship

This will probably come as a surprising revelation to many, but Sheeran and Cox have been friends for about a decade. Speaking with Daily Mail in 2014, the musician shared that their friendship might not have started if it weren't for one momentous party.

'I did a gig in LA and Bill Lawrence and Christa Miller [the TV producer and his actress wife] brought their daughter to meet me, he said. 'Next day, I happened to be having lunch in the same restaurant and they said would I like to come to a party that night? It was at Courtney's house.'

And so began the amazing story of their friendship. Not long after, he was even one of the people who introduced Cox to her future husband, Snow Patrol member and frequent Sheeran collaborator Johnny McDaid.

'I think I did the "Courtney meet Johnny, Johnny meet Courtney" thing, but Sacha Baron Cohen did the matchmaking. It's just two people who fell in love and I hope they're really happy.'

Since then, Sheeran and Cox have often appeared on each other's accounts, and once even performed Monica and Ross' famous 'routine' from Friends together.

As for Autumn Variations, the album will be released soon, on September 29.
