Apple CEO Tim Cook Wants Ted Lasso Season 4 As Much As You Do
But will it happen?
It has been less than a month since Season 3 of Ted Lasso aired its finale, and fans are already clamouring for more. The story of a good-natured American football coach at the helm of an English association football team is so beloved by viewers that people can hardly bear the mere thought of saying goodbye to the characters for good.
And mere mortal fans are not alone in this sentiment. Even Apple CEO Tim Cook is hooked on the sports dramedy, according to Brendan Hunt, who co-created Ted Lasso and played Coach Beard. The actor told the Los Angeles Times about how he ran into Cook on set.
‘Tim Cook came to visit the set one day, and when he had his moment to speak in the middle of the locker room, he said, “Thank you for all your hard work, and I sure hope there’s a Season 4.” The position was made very clear, with a Beard-style modicum of vocabulary,’ Hunt recalled.
That is certainly a good sign for Ted Lasso. With all three seasons of the hit series streaming on Apple TV+, the CEO's interest means that Season 4 will be greenlit as soon as the creators decide to go for it. But will they?
Jason Sudeikis, co-creator and star of the series, told Deadline earlier this year that Season 3 wrapped up the story he and his colleagues had in mind.
‘This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell,’ he said.
But don't lose heart. The creators are leaving the door open for the Ted Lasso universe. Brendan Hunt told the Los Angeles Times fans can expect news about the beloved series after a break.
‘Everything’s on the table now, including nothing. It’s been an all-in job for us for so long that we’re going to go away for a little bit and take a break, and then we’ll reconvene and figure out if something else is going to happen,’ he said.
And even if the fourth season doesn't happen after all, Sudeikis admitted that spinoffs based on various Ted Lasso characters are not out of the question.
‘I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories,’ he told Deadline.
Fans would surely be head over heels for a continuation of the beloved story. And now that we know that Tim Cook is also a fan, we can relax in the knowledge that there won't be any production or money-related issues.
