Apartment 7A: Rosemary's Baby References & Post-Credits Scene, Explained
The new horror is inextricably linked to the film of Roman Polanski.
On September 27, Paramount+ released the horror movie Apartment 7A. This is the prequel to Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby.
The movie featured a fascinating post-credits scene that recreated an iconic moment from the original. Let's take a look at who the Castevets met in the scene and what other references there are in the prequel.
Apartment 7A Takes Place Just Before the Events of Rosemary's Baby
The movie takes place in New York in 1965, before and partly during the events of Rosemary's Baby. According to the plot, dancer Terry Gionoffrio was injured during a performance. She did not stop going to auditions, but she was rejected because of her injury and damaged reputation. The head of a dance company, Alan, appreciated Terry's persistence, although didn't give her a job.
Terry decided to track down Alan and convince him to let her join the troupe. She arrived at his house, Bramford, where the Woodhouses would later live. Terry took too many pills and passed out near Alan's house. Minnie and Roman Castevet, Alan's neighbors, took pity on the girl and took her in. And this is the same Satanist couple from the original.
As a result, the old people gave Terry an apartment next to theirs. Alan turned out to be the Castevets' accomplice. He slipped a sleeping pill into Terry's drink, and the woman was taken to a secret room for a ritual. At the end of the ceremony, a devil covered in gems raped Terry so that she would give birth to the Antichrist.
What happened to the demon seemed like a nightmare to Terry. She decided that she had been very drunk and had forgotten that she had slept with Alan. After the incident, Terry's career took off, and thanks to an ointment from Minnie, her leg was magically healed.
Rosemary and Terry Had Different Ideas about the Devil's Image
The "shining" image of Satan seems to personify Terry's attraction to the world of glamor – it is a metaphor for the fact that she sold her soul to the devil for fame.
In Rosemary's Baby, the devil in Rosemary's nightmare was more canonical, red, because she came from a religious family and had "classical" ideas about evil.
Apartment 7A Ends Just as Rosemary's Baby Begins
After one night with Alan, Terry became pregnant. She decided to get rid of the child – but not only because of her career. The woman began to suspect that she was about to give birth to the Antichrist. A nun told her that the baby could trigger the apocalypse. However, the demonic child used telepathy to prevent the doctor from performing the abortion.
Terry then tried to stab herself in the stomach, but the child would not allow her to hurt herself. She realized that she was trapped forever by the Castevets and other Satanists who would not let her escape and build a career. So she agreed to join them at the celebration in honor of the imminent birth of the Antichrist.
Terry began to dance, praising Satan to lull the villains' vigilance, and suddenly jumped out of the window, hoping that this time the Antichrist would not stop her. Before her death, Terry said that this was her main role – to prevent the birth of the evil fiend.
In the original, Rosemary kept the baby because, unlike Terry, she dreamed of being a mother. Rosemary hoped to raise the Antichrist as a good person who would not destroy the world.
Apartment 7A Post-Credits Scene, Explained
In the mid-credits scene of Apartment 7A, the scene from Rosemary's Baby with Terry's corpse was recreated. The Castevets returned to their home and noticed new neighbors – a young married couple. They smiled at them, clearly seeing in the woman a new candidate for the role of the mother of the Antichrist.
The young people were seen from afar – but they were definitely the Woodhouses. Earlier, Terry had crossed paths with Rosemary in the laundry – in the original, the women met there.
After the finale of Apartment 7A, the Castevets will convince Guy to join them and allow Rosemary to be used to give birth to the Antichrist. In exchange, they will help Guy become a successful artist.
