Angelina's Secret Sibling: What Jolie's Little-Known Brother Looks Like
From family ties to career heights.
In 2000, Angelina Jolie was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Girl, Interrupted. She was only 24 at the time, but the actress was quickly becoming a big star, having already won a Golden Globe Award and getting an Emmy nomination for her role in Gia.
That night, Jolie was joined by her brother James Haven who was there to support his sister. When the actress accepted the Award for Best Supporting Actress, they were both ecstatic. In her speech, she declared her love for her brother. And later that night, at the awards after-party, Jolie kissed her brother on the lips, and the cameras caught it.
The kiss didn't exactly come out as a kiss between relatives, which caused quite a stir.
Personal life
In 2011, Haven started dating actress and producer Ashley Reign. She was rumored to be his first serious girlfriend. "They are head over heels in love. Ashley is one of the first girls James has felt serious enough about to introduce to his family and spend some quality time with," a friend of the couple said.
Haven's family members were happy to see him in a serious relationship, including his father Jon Voight, who really loved Ashley, and Angelina Jolie's ex-husband Brad Pitt.
"Brad is very relieved that James has a distraction to stop him from taking such a strong interest in what Angelina was doing," a source revealed.
Nanny
In 2016, when Angelina Jolie began the complicated divorce proceedings with Brad Pitt and the battle for custody of their children, she hired her brother as a nanny for her kids. Although James did a great job taking care of his nieces and nephews, it is said that Jolie fired him after only a few months. Sources noted that Haven enjoyed spending time with the children, but he realized that it was quite exhausting.
Director
Although Haven, like his sister, started out as an actor, starring in films such as Original Sin and Monster's Ball, he ended up being a producer and director. In 2016, it was revealed that he had signed on to direct a sci-fi film called The Last Boy, but apparently dropped out of the project.
However, in 2015, Haven wrote and directed a short documentary, Court of Conscience, about child abuse in the Catholic Church. The 20-minute film starred his father, Jon Voight, and Anton Yelchin.
Talking about how he ended up casting his father in the lead role, James noted that he hadn't originally planned to do so. "I didn't write it for him, but when I was thinking of casting for it, I really couldn't think of anybody else that could do the layers the piece required."
Now
James, 47, keeps his life private, but he was recently spotted with Ashley Reign in Los Angeles. According to the Daily Mail, Haven has spent very little time with his sister in recent years. This has sparked rumors that the once close Angelina and James have had a falling out.
"Suddenly, for no particular reason, they stopped talking and moved away. Only they know what really happened," a source said.
