Angelica Ross and Ryan Murphy’s Behind-the-Scenes AHS Drama, Explained
There’s more to it than some are giving credit for…
The issue between actor Angelica Ross and producer Ryan Murphy has got TV fans talking. And it seems almost everyone has an opinion on it. But what really went down between the two? And is this situation irreconcilable?
Much of the drama stems from an email conversation Ross says the two had back in 2020. The suggestion from her side is that they reached some kind of agreement for a season of American Horror Story starring black women.
As evidence, Ross tweeted (do we say Xd these days?) screenshots of an email she says she received from Murphy saying the concept had been greenlit and asking for ideas of other black stars who might appear alongside Ross.
But the issue is more than simply the season not going ahead in the end. Let’s face it: there are plenty of ideas that get shelved for one reason or another. What Angelica Ross is saying, though, is that when she tried reaching out to Murphy, he read her message and just didn’t reply. It’s also been mooted that her agent never got any response, either.
But it gets worse. Ross says she was offered a part in Marvel, which she didn’t take because she wasn’t sure what was happening with the AHS season but believed she was contracted into it. So, this becomes an issue of Ross potentially losing out on a major (and very lucrative) role that could have done wonders for her career.
Now, it’s worth pointing out that the full story is yet to be established. However, Angelica Ross has come in for a lot of criticism since raising this issue, with many calling her an attention seeker and saying she should be grateful to Murphy for giving her roles on Pose and American Horror Story. This particular story, though, is about a contract and a lack of communication.
At no point has Ross called out Murphy for his behavior on either of those shows. But, if her version is to be believed, she has every right to feel aggrieved at the lack of communication she has received. If her only problem was that the season didn’t go ahead as planned, not only would she have received almost no support, but it’s unlikely she’d have generated much interest on social media.
No doubt, this one will rumble on as new information comes to light and we hear more about exactly what conversations took place and the details of the contract.
