The comment surprised many to say the least.

The final episode of And Just Like That… is set to premiere on Max just one day from now. The sequel to Sex and the City launched in 2021, reigniting interest in the hit show's massive fandom. This year, the franchise added another season of the spin-off. Moreover, it recently celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary – a milestone few shows achieve.

Originally, SATC chronicled the lives of four female friends in New York as they navigated their personal and professional challenges. In contrast, And Just Like That… features only three of the original characters – Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte. Samantha, played by Kim Cattrall, was notably absent. However, in the season 2 finale, she is rumoured to make a highly anticipated cameo. Now, the franchise's showrunner has shared his thoughts on the actress's potential return.

Michael Patrick King was a writer and producer for Sex and the City and took on the same roles for And Just Like That… Given his deep involvement, he can offer invaluable insights into both series. As their driving force, his perspective is crucial for grasping the essence of the shows. A few months ago, King spoke with Forbes about the second season of And Just Like That… and disclosed his views on Kim Cattrall's potential comeback.

'The interesting thing about Samantha and And Just Like That… is I feel she's always been in the show. She's living in London, and she's texting with Carrie, primarily because Kim Cattrall was like, "I've retired Samantha for a while, or forever." So, that was the reality. Then this year, all of a sudden, something shifted emotionally in the universe,' the showrunner explained.

'All of a sudden, it manifested that Kim was like, "I'll play Samantha for you for this little, sweet treat." So, I don't know whether it's about the nostalgia for the 25th, which is great. For me, it's a great treat for the fans.'

Clearly, M. P. King seems pleased about Cattrall agreeing to reprise her iconic role, even if only for a short time. Considering the long-standing reported tension between Kim and SJP, as well as between Kim and King himself, it's somewhat surprising to hear him describe Cattrall's return as delightful. He even admitted to enjoying the process of scripting the character once again.

As for Samantha's appearance on And Just Like That…, we'll discover how it plays out tomorrow when the season finale is released on Max.
