An Echo in the Bone's Riskiest Scene Didn't Make It Into Outlander Season 7
Fans are saddened that the book's most raunchy scene won't appear in the upcoming season.
Starz's Outlander is still one of the most popular fantasy series out there, not only because of the great writing and heartfelt performances from the leads, but also thanks to the sheer amount of interesting erotic scenes sprinkled throughout each season. The producers of Outlander have never been afraid to add a little spice to their show by faithfully adapting Diana Gabaldon's original writing.
However, it looks like the creators have finally run into one scene they just can't shoot, and that's a real shame.
The upcoming Season 7 will mainly adapt the seventh book of Gabaldon's cycle, titled An Echo in the Bone. In that book, fans were treated to one of the naughtiest sex scenes they have ever read, in which Claire and Jamie enjoy each other's company in a small garden, using their hands to give each other pleasure. While we try to downplay the naughtiness of this scene, it's quite obvious that it was the sexiest moment in the couple's history.
So fans who read the original books rightly expected to see this scene in live action in the upcoming season, but the Starz team had another idea. According to executive producer Maril Davis, the steamy scene will not be a part of Season 7 or the upcoming Season 8.
'Some of it was a location thing. You know, in the book, it's a little — and I love the books — but it was hard to imagine that scene being pulled off. And if you see our sets, it's just not a possibility. That wasn't happening,' Davis said.
It looks like the producers are trying to push the idea that this scene was only cut because of production problems, which is a little hard to believe because all this scene needs to become a reality is a small garden and Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe on board.
It's a shame that fans won't get to see this tender moment between Claire and Jamie, but the coming two seasons are sure to bring some other beautiful and erotic scenes instead. After all, this is what Starz's Outlander has always done brilliantly since its inception in 2014.
Outlander Season 7 will arrive on Starz on June 16, 2023.
