AMC Theatres is resurrecting the first-run horror double feature for the first time in nearly two decades, teaming with XYZ Films and Flawless for a Halloween fright-fest — the first since Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse.

AMC is dusting off the true double feature for Halloween weekend. For the first time since Tarantino and Rodriguez tried it with Grindhouse back in 2007, you can buy one ticket, sit down, and watch two brand-new horror movies back-to-back. It is a throwback move, but with a very 2020s twist behind the scenes.

XYZ Films, teaming with Flawless and AMC Theatres, is packaging the event as a national play at AMC locations over Halloween weekend. There is even a trailer out for the double feature if you want a taste of the vibe before you commit.

"Consumers deserve a deal, and this double feature feels like the perfect way to celebrate Halloween Weekend. We want to drive audiences to theaters for great indie movies like these, and this is a creative way to do it. We're grateful to AMC for bringing this event to horror fans nationwide."

What you get for one ticket

  • Hallow Road - Directed by Babak Anvari

Cast: Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys. Pike is a Golden Globe and Emmy winner with BAFTA and Oscar nominations on her shelf (Saltburn, Gone Girl). Rhys is an Emmy and Critics Choice Award winner (The Americans).

The setup: A late-night phone call from their daughter detonates the evening. She has hit another young woman while driving her dad's car. The parents head out into the dark to contain the damage, only to uncover layer after layer of secrets that could blow up the family. Also, they might not be the only ones prowling Hallow Road.

Anvari called this Halloween rollout a rare chance for indie films to reach a wide audience and gave AMC credit for backing cinema on a global scale.

  • Vincent Must Die - Directed by Stéphan Castang

Cast: Karim Leklou and Vimala Pons.

The hook: Vincent is a regular guy until strangers start coming at him out of nowhere, eyes full of murder. His quiet life implodes, he goes on the run, and the film shifts into a survival story with sharp, nasty edges.

Inside baseball: This one marks Flawless second English-language theatrical release this year, using the company’s AI-driven dubbing tech. Same tech they previously rolled out on the film Watch the Skies.

It is a clean, simple proposition: two first-run indie horror movies, one ticket, Halloween weekend only, at AMC locations across the U.S. Check AMC Theatres site for showtimes and tickets. If you like your spooky season with a little event flair, this is very much that.
