It is time to revisit this masterpiece.

The character of Puss debuted in Shrek 2 in 2004, and the first solo Puss in Boots was released in 2011. The first film was devoted to the development of the hero, as Puss, his beloved Kitty Softpaws, and their old friend Humpty Dumpty hunted down the goose that laid the golden eggs.

The original animation grossed $554 million at the box office. However, the box office success of the first installment did not lead to a quick release of the sequel: the short film Puss in Boots: The Three Diablos was released and then the animated series The Adventures of Puss in Boots dropped on Netflix.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was released in 2022 and proved to be one of the most impressive animated projects of the decade, with a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

What Is The Last Wish About?

All cats have nine lives. Puss in Boots is no exception, but he carelessly squandered the first eight and didn't even realize it. Now he has only one life left, and if he dies, he will never be resurrected.

At first, the hero goes to a special shelter, where he uses a common litter box for hundreds of cats and lazily eats dry food. But soon the cat learns that there is a mysterious star that can grant wishes.

The cat sets out to find it, accompanied by an old friend, Kitty Softpaws, and a new friend, the optimistic dog Perrito. But they are not alone – Goldilocks with the three bears, Big Jack Horner, and the ominous Wolf is hot on the cat's heels.

The Last Wish Is Perfect in Both Animation and Story

The Last Wish is both a great gift for fans of the franchise and an absolute masterpiece of animation art. The sequel looks fresh thanks to its impressive mix of 2D and 3D graphics.

In terms of content, The Last Wish knows how to surprise: it is a fairy tale adventure with an amazing balance of joy and sadness, in which the main character suffers from panic attacks and is forced to change due to the persistent fear of death.

At the same time, the existential conflict is painted in bright colors, it wittily parodies the spaghetti westerns of Sergio Leone and the films about Zorro, and the battle with the Wolf in the finale is one of the most breathtaking animated scenes in recent years.

It's now one of the top five most-watched movies on Prime Video, so that is a good reason to watch or revisit The Last Wish.
