All Virgin River Seasons Ranked from Worst to Best: How Does Season 5 Compare?
The new instalment has already secured its place in fans' hearts.
It's only been a day since the release of the fifth season of Virgin River, but avid fans have already binged it. Given the show's popularity with viewers on Netflix, this is hardly surprising.
Premiering in 2019, Virgin River quickly became a must-watch for every drama fan. An adaptation of Robyn Carr's eponymous book series, the Netflix show centres on Melinda Monroe, a nurse who moves to the small titular town in Northern California after her husband's untimely death, hoping to start a new life there. The show has spanned five seasons, but they are not all equally loved by the audience.
Here are the seasons of Virgin River, ranked by fans from worst to best.
5. Season 3
Released in 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic, the third season of Virgin River was a real treat for fans, but it was too gloomy compared to the show's other seasons. Consider Mel and Jack's break-up or Hope's car accident – the audience had already had enough bad news to deal with.
4. Season 4
Perhaps what makes this season superior is the sense of a happy ending it brought after the bleakness of season 3. Mel and Jack's engagement was the season's highlight, and the ensuing joy proved satisfying for fans.
3. Season 5
The latest season is packed with events. Mel's pregnancy, the disaster that sweeps across Virgin River and challenges Hope's leadership, and the town folks bonding over it – season 5 is a breath of fresh air for a show that had become somewhat stale by the time it came out.
2. Season 1
Although this season introduced us to the beloved characters, it's ranked second because of its dragged-out pace. Nonetheless, it's very good in terms of originality. Moreover, this is the season where Mel and Jack's romance begins to blossom.
1. Season 2
While this season sees many unpleasant events, specifically Charmaine's excessive manipulations, it is also the season where Mel and Jack say their first I-love-yous, which was a pure joy to watch.
