All Creatures Great & Small Season 4 Trailer is Here with Tristan's Replacement
An inexperienced student will be the newest addition to the Skeldale family.
While American PBS subscribers will have to wait a few more months, UK residents (as well as users of various VPN services) will be able to watch the fourth season of Channel 5's All Creatures Great and Small in just over a week! Viewers will once again return to the village of Darrowby, and Skeldale House in particular, to watch a cozy drama involving animals and humans.
However, not all is cheerful for the inhabitants of the picturesque Yorkshire Dales -- war has come to Britain, and even the hinterland of Northern England is affected. But life goes on, and the staff of Skeldale must do their job on the spot, treating animals and finding a common language with the people. As the new trailer shows, James and Siegfried will also have to deal with the new vet, Tristan's temporary replacement.
Season 4 Trailer
The season begins in 1940. Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) has volunteered for the army, a fact that all of Skeldale is trying to come to terms with. However, his older brother Siegfried is particularly affected as he struggles to hold himself and the Vet's House together. At the same time, James and Helen are contemplating starting a family, but the situation is complicated by the worry that he may be drafted into the Royal Air Force.
And yet, however dark and troubling the times, the residents of Darrowby are not discouraged and try to live the same old life, full of joys and bright moments.
New trainee at Skeldale
Most notable, however, was the introduction of a new character, the brilliant Edinburgh University veterinary student Richard Carmody (James Anthony-Rose), who comes to Skeldale to practice. Over the course of the season, Richard must transform from a goofy newcomer to an indispensable part of the Skeldale family.
Those familiar with the James Herriot books and the BBC series that ran from 1978 to 1990 know this character, although in the old series he only briefly replaced Tristan when the latter left to take the exams. Carmody is a very talented vet, but despite his confidence and enthusiasm, he lacks practice. As a result, like falling into a pile of cow manure as we've seen in the trailer, the aspiring vet surgeon will find himself in hilarious situations, replacing Tristan as comic relief and source of conflict.
The first episode of All Creatures Great and Small Season 4 will air on Channel 5 and My5 on October 5 and in the US on January 17 as part of PBS Masterpiece.
