Alexandra Breckenridge Has Virgin River Season 6 News, and It Ain't Peachy
Well, we were warned.
As September draws closer – the time when we traditionally get new seasons of many of our favourite shows – Alexandra Breckenridge has given an update on season 6 of Virgin River, which would normally be in production by now and due for release in autumn 2024.
In a short video posted online, the actress, who has been playing Melinda Monroe since 2019, says that filming for season 6 hasn't started yet due to the ongoing strike action by writers and actors.
The news comes as no shock. At the end of April, as the writers' strike looked increasingly likely, experts warned that if a solution could not be found, there was a real risk that many popular shows (and, consequently, the audiences of those shows) would suffer.
When actors joined their writing colleagues on the picket lines in July, it became more obvious that schedules would be disrupted. And so far there is no resolution in sight.
Breckenridge popped a few snacks into her mouth as she revealed that she should be filming in Vancouver right now – as she has every year since 2018 – but is still at home in Georgia.
While the news won't affect the upcoming season 5, which is due to be released on Netflix on 7 September, season 6 already seems to be behind schedule. Of course, depending on how quickly the strikes can be brought to a satisfactory end, there may well be time to catch up with the production schedule and have it ready for September next year.
But fans must be concerned about how such a rushed effort might affect the quality of the final product.
At the moment, however, most fans of the show are more concerned about the fate of Dan Brady. The trailer for Season 5 seems to show the military veteran, played by Benjamin Hollingsworth, in a bit of a predicament. After struggling to readjust to civilian life, Brady is seen on his knees with his hands apparently tied behind his back.
How he got there, why, and whether he will get out are not yet revealed. But the clip has certainly got tongues wagging and fans are now eagerly awaiting the start of Season 5. As for Season 6, it looks like there will be no further updates on when filming will start until the strikes are over.
