Alec Baldwin and Brother Stephen Involved in Car Crash: What We Know So Far

Alec Baldwin and brother Stephen walked away from a Monday crash that left their white Range Rover with major front-end damage; no serious injuries were reported.
Well, this is one way to make an entrance at a film festival. Alec Baldwin and his brother Stephen were in a car crash out in East Hampton on Monday. The good news: they both walked away. The bad news: the Range Rover did not.
The basics
- When/where: Monday in East Hampton
- Who: Alec Baldwin and his brother Stephen
- What happened: Their white Range Rover hit a large tree
- Injuries: No serious injuries reported; both walked out and spoke with police
- Why they were in town: The Hamptons International Film Festival
- Car details: Hood badly crumpled, driver door left open; the SUV is registered to Hilaria Baldwin
What went down
Photos from the scene show the SUV’s front end smashed in after hitting a big tree. First responders swarmed the area. Alec was seen standing next to the vehicle, talking to officers and making a phone call. No one from the Baldwin family’s reps has commented yet, but Alec decided to do it himself on Instagram.
Alec’s version of events
In an Instagram video, he says a massive garbage truck cut him off, and to avoid plowing into it, he swerved and hit the tree instead. He describes the truck like it was something out of a construction site, giant and impossible to miss. His words were pretty colorful:
"To avoid hitting it, I hit a tree. Big fat tree. It crushed my car, my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car. I feel bad about that. But I’m fine, my brother’s fine."
Where things stand
Police at the scene confirmed both Alec and Stephen were conscious and talking. Neither had obvious major injuries, and they both walked away from the crash. The Range Rover, registered to Hilaria Baldwin, did not fare nearly as well. Not exactly the Hamptons Film Festival schedule anyone had in mind, but everyone’s okay — which, considering the size of the truck Alec was describing, is the only part that really matters here.
