AJLT Fans Are Ready to Boot One Sex and the City Star From the Show
And just like that, SATC's original characters ain't what they used to be.
HBO's Sex and The City was one of the most popular television series in recent history, but the original show ended nearly two decades ago, and the ongoing sequel, And Just Like That..., hasn't exactly been a hit with fans.
One major difference from Sex and The City is that the sequel doesn't have Kim Cattrall's Samantha in it, but that's not the main reason fans feel so let down by the new series.
First of all, the three lead characters don't really resonate with today's audiences, probably because the once groundbreaking show has been turned into a bland situational comedy, a decision that infuriated the original project's fans. In addition, many people feel that Kristin Davis's Charlotte has been completely butchered in the sequel: the once cheerful and smart young woman has become a boring, simple-minded, and shallow version of herself.
'Can they just write Charlotte off the show already? My god her storylines are boring. I'm not one to skip forward but I had to skip past the four minute Kegel coaching scene. Her problems aren't problems, her kids are brats,' a fan said.
People seem to have completely lost interest in Kristin Davis's character. They wish the writers gave Charlotte the same attention and nuanced character development as in the original show. It's painful to watch your favourite character turn into an extra, and seeing how And Just Like That... is only popular with the fans of the original series, it's no wonder we're seeing more and more calls for Max to remove her from the show or even just cancel the sequel altogether.
The new Charlotte is a one-dimensional laughing stock of a character whose sole purpose seems to be to serve as the butt of various jokes while the writers go about developing newly introduced supporting characters. In the original, Charlotte was kind and respectful to others and was the 'proper lady' of the group. And fans loved her for that. The sequel's shallow and derivative version is a sad spectacle for fans who remember her from the original show.
Well, if you're not ready to give up on Charlotte and AJLT yet, you can catch the next episode on Max on 13 July 2023.
