The casting trick worked. But is it enough?

The new season of American Horror Story (AHS) aired its first episode on September 20th and the ratings look really promising.

According to statistics from TV Series Finale, 454K viewers watched the premiere on FX. This is a huge increase over the previous season's viewership and makes AHS the only current show on the network with a year-over-year increase.

For comparison, the premiere episode of Season 11 NYC was released on October 19, 2022 and was watched by 384K people, with the number decreasing from episode to episode.

Rising numbers are not accidental

So how did this unexpected but pleasant increase in numbers happen? There is no doubt that the promotional efforts for Delicate have worked. You see, this season has an ace up its sleeve: a major celebrity in the cast.

Kim Kardashian is one of the most followed women on the planet, and every media outlet out there has at least once noted her first appearance on the scripted TV series. It is only natural that Kim's fans tuned in to Delicate along with seasoned AHS viewers.

In her debut role, Kim plays Siobhan Corbyn, a high-powered publicist and friend of Emma Robert's protagonist, Anna, an A-list actress undergoing a painful IVF procedure. So far, Siobhan has been nothing more than a caring and supportive friend to Anna, but as the story progresses, her role could change drastically.

AHS' future Is still uncertain

Kim Kardashian's involvement has certainly had a positive impact on the show, but does that mean its future is secure? One thing is for sure, Season 13 is happening, but beyond that, it's too early to tell.

Back after Season 9, 1984 aired its finale, AHS was renewed for four more seasons, which gives us one more spine-chilling tale after Delicate. But another renewal is up in the air.

Season 12 may have drawn more viewers than NYC, but it is still nowhere near the previous installments, which had up to six million viewers for their premiere episodes. Add to that the audience criticism of the last few seasons, and FX may not want to renew the iconic horror anthology beyond Season 13. But we'll have to wait and see.
