The actress is the only reason fans keep watching the show.

When the first season of American Horror Story debuted in 2011, hardly anybody could have predicted how big the anthology series would get. Since then, it has told us eleven blood-chilling stories brought to life by beloved actors and celebrities like Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange, and Zachary Quinto.

With the twelfth season of American Horror Story scheduled to premiere in less than two weeks, FX, the network that produces it, has recently released the upcoming instalment's trailer – presumably to stoke fans' anticipation. Season 12 will feature many new faces, including Kim Kardashian and Cara Delevingne, as well as veterans like Emma Roberts. Having seen the trailer, fans have concluded that the latter actress will carry the season.

Roberts Is A Celebrated Horror Actress

Before joining the AHS universe in its third season, Emma Roberts starred in Scream 4. During her extensive tenure on American Horror Story, the actress also participated in The Blackcoat's Daughter and Scream Queens. In total, she has appeared in six seasons of AHS, including the forthcoming twelfth instalment.

What's Wrong with AHS?

Over the course of its twelve seasons, American Horror Story has noticeably declined in quality, according to many fans. This is somewhat surprising because it's an anthology series, with each season exploring a new narrative. However, the fact remains – AHS's quality first began going downhill several seasons ago.

'I used to love American Horror Story but I haven't watched it in a few years. I tried to get back into the show last fall but with the mediocre at best acting, terrible writing, and plotless storylines it really hasn't been worth watching. This one looks like no exception, Emma is carrying this season on her back,' a Redditor wrote.

This sentiment seems to resonate with other viewers.

'I couldn't even finish last season after trying to get back into it. So disappointing, this show was one of the few I'd look forward to every fall. I loved how spooky and fun it used to be and I could overlook some of the more out there storylines, writing, but now it's just like Ryan Murphy [AHS's creator] doesn't give af and all of it is terrible,' another Redditor weighed in. 'I'm surprised Emma Roberts hasn't jumped ship on AHS all together yet.'

It remains to be seen how well season 12 will be received. It premieres on FX on 20 September.
