It seems that the 2020s are the new '90s for sitcoms.

Summary

  • Currently, a Frasier reboot is streaming on Paramount+.
  • Another iconic sitcom from the '90s might get revived.
  • Its cast hasn't been told anything yet.

It's been just over a month since the revival of Frasier, one of NBC's most popular sitcoms of all time, premiered. So far, the new show has received mixed reviews, with many fans expressing their joy at the opportunity to see their beloved characters after a twenty-year hiatus, and others slamming the reboot for its numerous shortcomings. And it appears that it may not be the only cult comedy show to get a makeover.

Just recently, comedian Jerry Seinfeld teased a possible return of his eponymous sitcom, which originally aired from 1989 to 1998. After nine years on the air, Seinfeld came to a gruesome end when the main characters were convicted of criminal negligence. Needless to say, many fans found the ending rather questionable and have been eager to see what happened to their favorites ever since.

Is a Seinfeld Revival Possible?

Although it hasn't yet been confirmed, Jerry Seinfeld told the crowd at one of his stand-up shows that he and Larry David were thinking of ways to address the sitcom's dubious conclusion. Naturally, many people thought that a reboot was on the table. But it's too soon to say anything on the matter.

At least, neither Seinfeld nor David have further commented on their plans. But most importantly, they haven't even discussed it with their co-stars from the cult sitcom.

The Rest of the Seinfeld Cast Is Unaware of Any Plans for Revivals

For instance, Jason Alexander who portrayed Seinfeld's on-screen best friend, George Constanza, said that he was oblivious to reboots of the fan-favorite sitcom as no one had contacted him about it. In fact, the actor let it be known that Seinfeld's words should be taken with a grain of salt, as they may just be gossip.

'There is only one reason for that rumor. Jerry [Seinfeld], apparently, at the end of some stand-up thing went, "Well, Larry and I are thinking of something." Good for you. I don't know anything about it… No one called me,' Jason Alexander said in an interview.

Evidently, if there were to be a revival, it might be much like Frasier, with most of the original cast missing.

'Apparently, they don't need George and they may not need Elaine 'cause Julia [Louis-Dreyfus] and I went, "Do you know anything about this? I don't know anything about this," and I just talked to Michael [Richards] the other day and I don't think he knew anything about it either, so…' the actor added.
