The beloved series is back.

While the USA Network could never quite compete with giants like NBC, CBS, or HBO, it still boasted a roster of compelling shows, with Suits being the most prominent among them. This unconventional legal drama focused on a brilliant lawyer and his ingenious mentor is now best known for featuring Meghan Markle before her marriage to Prince Harry. However, it seems that Netflix's decision to acquire the rights to the show has significantly helped to solidify Suits' legacy, independent of Markle and her personal life.

Earlier this year, Netflix added all nine seasons, comprising 134 episodes, to its library, reintroducing the show to millions of viewers. The Suits hype train has grown so large in recent months that the series even ranked as the number-one show on the platform for several weeks. This surge in popularity has not gone unnoticed by the powers that be in the industry.

New Beginning

While many fans speculated that Netflix would renew Suits for another season or even reboot the series with new actors following its success, it was actually NBC that secured the rights to this coveted property.

Series creator Aaron Korsh recently disclosed that he is already deep into writing the script for a Suits spin-off, though he declined to reveal any insider details about the project other than it will be set in the same universe as the original USA Network show.

However, don't expect the upcoming series to have any substantial connection to Suits. The show will merely be set in the same universe as Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 and will not feature any actors from the main show in any major roles.

While fans were somewhat disappointed to hear this, the concept of expanding the Suits universe rather than exploiting it for ratings definitely sounds like the right move. This approach will help the series solidify its legacy without tarnishing the finale and the narratives—a win-win for fans, in our opinion.

NBC has yet to announce a release date for the untitled spin-off.
