Many people hate the sound of their voices and hate looking at themselves in pictures and videos.

The famous are no exception. Dame Margaret Smith says she has never watched an episode of Downton Abbey, in which she played a leading role.

And she's not the only British movie star who refuses to watch themselves on screen.

It may be that Brits are prone to self-deprecation, but British actors often choose to ignore the movies they are a part of.

Jack Gleeson, also known as Game of Thrones' most evil character, Joffrey Baratheon, admitted that he never finished the show. No, the actor, who left the show almost a decade ago, never watched the later seasons. And his reasons aren't what you might think.

A very nice person in real life, Gleeson may not want to see himself as a bad-tempered villain infamous for the atrocities he has committed. In fact, Joffrey Baratheon is probably the most hated character of Game of Thrones. And that is quite an achievement in a world of constant assassinations, intrigues, and betrayals.

Even unlike his horrid but charismatic mother Cersei, Joffrey doesn't have any fans.

It is understandable why Jack Gleeson would want to distance himself from the character.

But the situation is much simpler than that. According to Gleeson, at first, he was simply reluctant to see himself on screen. But as time went on and the actor got older and more accustomed to watching his own acting, he still didn't watch the show. Gleeson said he tried, but it just wasn't for him. And that was it.

“There was something about it where I was just like, ‘No, I'll just leave it,’” EW quotes the actor.

So when a fan asked Jack Gleeson what he thought about the Game of Thrones finale, which left many people disappointed, the actor had nothing to say. However, he did mention that his friends had watched the show all the way through and seemed very upset by the ending. And while he said that everyone is "entitled" to an opinion, he had none.

It seems that worldwide doesn't equal universal when it comes to popularity. Tastes do differ.
