HBO Max drops the final trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, teasing Ser Duncan Dunk the Tall and his squire Egg — played by Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell — as they ride into the next epic chapter of Westeros this January.

HBO just dropped the final trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which means we are headed back to Westeros again. Different era, different vibe: this one follows a scrappy knight and his squire long before Game of Thrones, more in the House of the Dragon timeline neighborhood. It lands this winter with a tight, six-episode first season, and HBO already has a second season in the works, which tells you how confident they are in this thing.

What the trailer sets up

The show centers on Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his pint-sized squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). It is set when the Targaryens still hold the Iron Throne and dragons are gone but not forgotten. The pitch here is a more boots-on-the-ground adventure across Westeros rather than palace intrigue overload.

"Two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros..."

That line from the official logline is the gist: a naive-but-brave knight and his squire wind up in bigger destinies, nastier enemies, and riskier quests than they signed up for.

Who is making it

George R. R. Martin co-created the series with Ira Parker; both are executive producers, and Parker is the showrunner. Sarah Bradshaw, Owen Harris, Ryan Condal, and Vince Gerardis are also on board as executive producers. Owen Harris and Sarah Adina Smith direct episodes. If you like your Westeros shows made by people neck-deep in Westeros, this qualifies.

Premiere date, episode count, platform

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on HBO and HBO Max on January 18, 2026. Season 1 runs six episodes. A second season is already in development, which is a pretty loud vote of confidence before the first chapter even airs.
