Before Season 1 even finishes its run, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is already charging into Season 2, with showrunner Ira Parker teasing the next chapter’s story direction and an early release window.

Before Dunk and Egg have even properly hit the road on TV, the next leg of the journey is already in gear. Showrunner Ira Parker says Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is underway, and yes, it is exactly the chapter you think it is.

So what are we getting in Season 2?

Parker confirms the show is moving straight into The Sworn Sword, the second Dunk and Egg novella from George R. R. Martin. That story lands about a year and a half after the events covered in Season 1 (The Hedge Knight), and it brings in some fan-favorite figures from the books: Rohanne Webber, better known as the Red Widow; Ser Bennis; and Ser Eustace.

"We’re now getting into The Sworn Sword, which is my favorite novella in many ways, with Rohanne Webber or the Red Widow, Ser Bennis, and Ser Eustace, who are these classic characters."

Parker also teases that the new faces have been cast and are already at work, keeping specifics close to the vest but sounding pretty pleased with the choices.

"I can’t say much, but we have three absolutely brilliant actors coming in to do these roles. I’m excited. We are cutting some scenes together now, and the directors are seeing some of it, so it feels nice to see [season two] slowly come together."

Where things stand right now

This is one of those nerdy production details I love: they’re editing Season 2 scenes while Season 1 rolls out, which Parker calls a blessing because it keeps the team focused on the work instead of refreshing reactions all day. The show was already renewed before the premiere, so there was no awkward down time between seasons for the writers and directors.

  • Season 1 adapts The Hedge Knight; Season 2 adapts The Sworn Sword
  • Timeline jump: roughly 1.5 years after Season 1
  • Key incoming characters: Rohanne Webber (the Red Widow), Ser Bennis, Ser Eustace
  • Status: scenes are being cut now; directors are seeing early footage
  • Renewal timing: HBO gave Season 2 the green light in November 2025, about two months before the series premiered

The road ahead

No premiere window for Season 2 yet, and Parker isn’t giving up casting names, but the creative direction is clear: we’re headed into The Sworn Sword, with the Red Widow and a pair of crusty knights waiting on the other side. If you know the novella, you know that means sharper politics, dryer fields, and a lot more trouble for one very tall hedge knight and his not-at-all-subtle squire.
