8 Comfort Comedy Shows to Get You Through the Rest of 2023
Best series to put your mind at peace.
When the Covid-19 pandemic struck the world in 2020, people joked nothing could have been worse. Yet, here we are, with the world sinking ever deeper into despair as the global news becomes more and more unhinged.
Fortunately, there's a lifeline (and no, it's not just therapy) — TV shows! Here's a list of the most comforting and funny comedies to help you take your mind off things in this gloomy year of 2023.
8. A.P. Bio (2018, 4 seasons)
The main character is a philosophy professor who loses his job at Harvard and returns to his hometown to become a high school biology teacher. However, he has no desire to teach the students; instead, he plans to use them for his unconventional philosophical experiments.
7. Fresh Off the Boat (2015, 6 seasons)
This sitcom, based on Eddie Huang's autobiography of the same name, follows the journey of a Taiwanese-American family chasing the American dream by moving to Orlando, Florida, to open a cowboy-themed steakhouse and integrate into the local community.
6. Raising Hope (2010, 4 seasons)
The plot revolves around a 23-year-old man who discovers he has a daughter and takes on the duty of raising her. The series is light-hearted and tackles issues of responsibility and family relationships.
5. Bob's Burgers (2011, 14 seasons)
Bob's Burgers is one of the most compelling animated sitcoms in recent history, after King of the Hill. It revolves around the Belcher family, who owns the eponymous restaurant. The Belchers are not only a model of a functional family but their trials and tribulations always conclude with a happy ending.
4. Psych (2006, 8 seasons)
Mix a police procedural with a comedy, and you get Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the equally amusing Psych. The show is about a young man who fakes psychic abilities to assist the Santa Barbara Police Department.
3. Community (2009, 6 seasons)
Dan Harmon's Community has earned a cult following thanks to its brilliantly crafted script that satirically deconstructs aspects of pop culture. Everything about this show is exceptional, from the hilarious and surreal storyline to the stellar ensemble cast with fantastic chemistry.
2. The Good Place (2016, 4 seasons)
Eleanor finds herself in the afterlife but soon realizes she doesn't belong there. Or does she? This sitcom poses many ethical questions, but above all, it's about self-acceptance and a robust sense of community.
1. Ghosts (2019, 5 seasons)
There's an equally excellent American adaptation, but we still recommend you check out the British original. The plot centers on a young couple who inherit a grand mansion and end up having to deal with its previous inhabitants, who are now ghosts.
