7 Worst New Netflix Shows of 2023, Ranked By How Unwatchable They Are
These shows may not be worth your time.
Despite the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, it can't be said that there was a lack of releases in 2023. Some of them turned out to be hits, some of them were just average, and some of them were not worth the time spent.
Let's take a look at the new shows on Netflix that turned out to be the least entertaining – who knows, maybe you have a guilty pleasure in watching dull shows just like us!
7. Unstable
Not everyone manages to successfully blend family drama and workplace comedy, and we would have loved to see Rob Lowe and John Owen Lowe's Unstable turn out to be just that. Unfortunately, the plot is so lacking in insight that we have to wonder if it wasn't just a publicity stunt.
6. Agent Elvis
An animated black comedy with a touch of satirical revisionism, Agent Elvis may intrigue with its star-studded cast (the King himself is voiced by Matthew McConaughey!) and references to 20th century pop culture, but in reality, it is an example of rather mediocre writing with only occasionally funny jokes.
5. How to Become a Cult Leader
Netflix's docuseries are always a hit or miss, and How to Become a Cult Leader was more of a miss. Although the series is a good introduction to cults like the Manson Family or Aum Shinrikyo, it was too superficial and only scratched the surface of cultist horrors.
4. Fubar
Perhaps it should come as no surprise that whenever Arnold Schwarzenegger is involved these days, there are some overused clichés from his early career. Unfortunately, Fubar relies too much on his early repertoire and delivers a mediocre action drama with equally mediocre jokes.
3. Mulligan
The glut of edgy, satirical cartoons has definitely exhausted the fans. Building on sci-fi clichés, Mulligan failed to deliver an original plot or jokes and viewpoints that didn't feel dated.
2. Glamorous
Glamorous had every chance to be the biggest queer drama of the year, juggling ideas from Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada, and at times it succeeded in being both cute and campy. However, the mediocre plot made it one of the biggest missed opportunities.
1. Queen Cleopatra
It's absurd to blame Netflix for Cleopatra being played by a black woman (somehow the Internet forgets that she was never portrayed in Western pop culture with historically accurate Greek features and clothing). However, the show's creators still haven't figured out whether they wanted to make a documentary based on historical facts or just a mediocre drama.
