From the sublime to the ridiculous, he’s had a varied acting career to date.

Ethan Slater has recently become known as Ariana Grande's boyfriend and the news is all about his relationship with the 'Thank U, Next' singer. Okay, so he's also her co-star in the upcoming film version of Wicked. Oh, and he played SpongeBob SquarePants in the TV musical.

But you might also recognise him from some of the TV shows he's appeared in over the past 8 years:

1. The Marvelous Mrs Maisel

Slater appeared in Season 5, Episode 4 of this period comedy-drama about an American-Jewish housewife trying to break into the world of comedy. It was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it performance as a character called Steven in the episode, which saw Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) perform in an industrial musical.

2. Instinct (2019)

Season 2, episode 7 of this police procedural, entitled 'After Hours', saw Dylan and Lizzie investigate a high-profile murder. The case led them to go undercover in New York's erotic underworld. Slater played a character named Noah.

3. Fosse/Verdon (2019)

A miniseries detailing the life and tense relationship of the real-life couple, choreographer Bob Fosse and actor and dancer Gwen Verdon. Slater played the role of actor, singer, dancer and theatre director Joel Grey.

4. Murphy Brown (2018)

Murphy Brown is a sitcom starring Candice Bergen as the titular character, an investigative journalist and recovering alcoholic. It ran for 11 seasons across two runs. Slater played Officer Reynolds in a single episode of the revived series, which was cancelled after only one additional season.

5. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Law & Order is a rite of passage on US television, and Ethan Slater has completed it. Slater played a character called Riley Porter in the hard-hitting Season 20 episode 4 about a misogynistic group of men being investigated after a spate of sexual violence.

6. New Mayor of New York (2015)

This was a show in which Slater appeared more than once. He starred as Nathan in all three episodes of the web-only musical miniseries about a mayoral candidate who is not really fit for the role - and his equally inept best friend/campaign manager.

7. Redheads Anonymous (2015)

Slater played Sam in all 5 episodes of this one-season show. The premise of the show was that a group of redheads had to discover what it meant to be ginger in order to qualify for a Redhead Scholarship.
