Let's be honest: it's nearly impossible to commit to binge-watching incredibly long shows like Game of Thrones or Lost. Fortunately, there are still plenty of other great shows with far fewer episodes that you can finish in just a couple of days.
Here are seven short series to binge-watch this September:
Hello Ladies
Stephen Merchant's brilliant comedy about a weird guy trying to up his game might be largely forgotten by now, but this show, adapted from Merchant's own stand-up tour, is definitely worth a watch for all fans of British humour and cringe-worthy scenes.
I May Destroy You
Michaela Coel's dark comedy about an influencer who realises she was sexually assaulted after her drink was spiked certainly tackles some deeply distressing issues, but that doesn't mean the show doesn't have comic relief in spades. This series is undoubtedly one of the most unique projects HBO has ever produced.
Mare of Easttown
Kate Winslet is outstanding as the small-town detective trying to reopen a year-old missing persons case. The strong script and supporting performances from the rest of the cast make this brief crime series a must-watch for all fans of true crime and True Detective-style shows.
The Night Of
This courtroom drama first introduced the world to Riz Ahmed. The stranger-than-fiction story also managed to revive the career of John Turturro. Be warned, though, that this show can be a bit difficult to watch at times, as the themes of racism and social injustice play a significant role in the plot.
The Staircase
The fictionalised retelling of the iconic docudrama The Staircase may even surpass the original project. Colin Firth and Toni Collette truly flex their acting chops in this miniseries. Even if the show doesn't provide a definitive ending to the real-life story, the process of watching it is well worth your time.
Station Eleven
This miniseries, starring Mackenzie Davis, is one of the most unique post-apocalyptic projects to ever grace TV screens. It addresses the themes of hope, ecology, and social consciousness in a beautiful and uplifting manner.
Watchmen
Damon Lindelof's take on Alan Moore's iconic original comics was somewhat controversial upon its release. Fans of the original story criticised the creator for making too many changes to the universe. However, that didn't stop Watchmen from becoming one of the most compelling and rewarding pieces of television to premiere this century.
