6 TV Shows Were Renewed This Month (May 2023) So Far
And there are plans for some spin-offs.
With all the gloom and confusion over which shows will be affected by the WGA strikes, there’s also been some good news this month.
Here are 6 shows that have had new seasons confirmed:
-
Sweet Tooth
The fantasy drama based on the comic book series of the same name has been confirmed for a third and final season on Netflix. The multi-award-winning apocalyptic drama follows half-boy half-deer Gus as he sets out to find his mother.
-
FBoy Island
This dating show that sees 3 females trying to work out which of the 24 boys on the island are FBoys (womanisers) and which are seeking true love, was cancelled by Max after 2 seasons. But now it’s back on CW for a third season – and spin-off FGirls is on the way too.
-
911 ABC
The LA first responders procedural is back for its seventh season of adrenaline-pumping action and disaster scenes. But it’s changing networks and will now appear on ABC rather than Fox.
The Texas spin-off of this procedural is only entering its fifth season – and it’s staying put on Fox. Set in Austin, Texas, it tracks events concerning the fire, police and ambulance departments of fictional company 126.
-
Bosch: Legacy
This spin-off from the Amazon Prime series Bosch is a police procedural set in LA. It’s more of an extension of the original series and follows the career of Harry Bosch as he becomes a private investigator having retired from the police. And it’s pretty popular. Season 2 hasn’t even aired yet, but a third season has already been announced.
-
The Diplomat
The tense political thriller follows the career and life of Keri Russel as she tries to balance the pressures of international politics with her responsibility to her family. The second season of this one has been confirmed just 10 days after the season one premiere aired.
And there is more good news. So far, no shows have been cancelled this month. With nearly 4 weeks left to go in May, we may yet hear positive news about some other shows being recommissioned for a new season. And, if all goes well with negotiations between the AMPTP and various unions, we might even get some certainty that the production of the new seasons will get underway on time.
