6 Times The Office Crossed the Line and Made Us Cringe
Despite all the fun, some scenes are simply unbearable.
The Office is remembered not only for its slice-of-life atmosphere but also for the characters who turned office routines into fun and lively moments. After all, the characters became like a family to each other and the fans as well. But what's a family without awkward moments?
Cringe is one of the main components of a mockumentary, but some cringe-worthy moments of this sitcom have gone so far that many fans can't help but skip these scenes. Get ready to revisit Dunder Mifflin for the most awkward moments in the history of The Office!
6. Date Mike
Michael Scott is probably the epitome of secondhand embarrassment, as almost every line and act of his made us want to crawl under the table to hide from the cringe.
A good example is the episode 'Happy Hour.' Jim and Pam decided to set up a date for their boss by inviting their friend Pam to the meeting. Everything went great, and Michael was able to impress her just by being himself. But as soon as he found out it was a date, his alter ego — Date Mike, which he developed after being impressed by a reality show — suddenly kicked in.
5. Dinner Party
Michael and Jan invited Jim, Pam, Andy, and Angela to dinner — and, not surprisingly, it didn't end well. It turned out that Michael was being controlled by Jan in every area of his life, suddenly Dwight burst into the party, and Michael and Jan started arguing loudly. All in all, absolute chaos!
4. Phyllis' Wedding
This episode is definitely one of the funniest and most unbearable. Once again, Michael became the main party pooper. The boss has always craved attention, so when Phyllis asked him to push his father's wheelchair down the aisle, he felt like the father of the bride himself. And when the real father got up to escort his daughter, frustrated Michael started making noises to get attention.
3. Diversity Day
After a very inappropriate Chris Rock impersonation, the company decided to hold diversity training in the office. Offended by this, Michael decides to hold his own 'training' in the form of a game with index cards depicting famous PoCs or races.
And yes, all of this leads to offensive racial stereotyping on Michael's part.
2. Diwali
In this episode, Michael was rejected by Carol at a Diwali party. Pam decided to support a distraught Michael, but her boss misinterpreted the sympathy and… tried to kiss her, thinking she was trying to seduce him. That was just too much!
1. Scott's Tots
Michael had once promised the students that he would pay their tuition, thinking that he would be incredibly rich by then. But of course, that didn't happen, and he had to watch in shame as the students dedicated songs and dances to him, only to disappoint them.
And while this is objectively a great episode, watching Michael's confession was unbearable for many.
