6 Reasons to Avoid Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 (Yes It's as Lame as They Say)
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the best… if you haven’t watched its final season.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a show loved by millions. But its final season, heavily influenced by COVID and the social events happening in the US in 2021 when it premiered, feels like a completely different series.
It has gotten to the point where many fans prefer to end their rewatch on the last episode of Season 7 and pretend that this is the finale of the entire show. Here's why.
1. Change in tone
Fans say the main reason the final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine feels like a different show is because of a dramatic change in tone. The Fox series was never afraid to tackle heavy topics like racism, homophobia, sexism, and police brutality, but it always managed to deliver those themes with lightheartedness and fun.
In Season 8, however, the uncomfortable topics are just… well, uncomfortable. Instead of clever satire, the episodes feel like a bunch of social commentary thrown in the viewer's face.
2. Rosa
The main victim of the previous take is the character of Rosa, who quits her police career in Episode 1 after the George Floyd protests and becomes a private investigator. Many fans felt that such a twist was out of character for Rosa. The bad girl we know and love would remain on the force to solve the problem at its core.
3. Charles
Another beloved character ruined in Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 is Charles, who was basically degraded into a supporting character with no interesting storylines. The eighth season's Charles feels like a shell of his former self, and it is just sad.
4. PB & J
If you love Doug Judy, never watch 'PB & J.' This is hands down the worst of all the Pontiac Bandit episodes, and probably of the whole show.
The storytelling is inconsistent, Jake's an idiot, Doug is a jerk, and Trudy Judy is the most annoying she's ever been.
5. Jake and Amy
Sadly, the adorable dynamic between Jake and Amy that made them one of the best couples on television also fell victim to the final season. Adding a kid into the equation didn't work out well for them — the chemistry and the cute little things are gone, and the parenting storylines get old and unfunny fast.
6. Jokes
If there's one thing that made Brooklyn Nine-Nine a fan favorite, it's the show's unparalleled humor. But in Season 8, the jokes feel weird, mostly consisting of one-liners going one after the other. The writing was almost desperate and tired, which made a lot of fans wish they'd never watched the season in the first place.
