6 Classic Blue Bloods Episodes to Rewatch While Season 14 is on Hold
Be sure to revisit these in anticipation of next season.
CBS' Blue Bloods is one of the best TV series in the police procedural genre. Thanks to its brilliant writing, the show allows us to look critically at the police as an institution, regularly raising ethical dilemmas about the officers' actions and the bureaucratic structure of law enforcement in general.
Blue Bloods is also a great story of generational conflict, following members of the Reagan family and NYPD employees grappling with the question of what's best — the old ways or modern approaches.
Unfortunately, for the first time in the show's long run, we are faced with the disappointing news that Season 14 has been postponed indefinitely due to the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes. But don't be discouraged because this is a great opportunity to revisit some of the best classic episodes.
6. Pilot (Season 1, Episode 1)
IMDb rating: 7.5/10
The pilot episode of Blue Bloods may not be the best, but it can serve as a good revision of how the popular story began in 2010. In the first episode, the series not only introduces the Reagan family, but also addresses the issues of racism and prejudice during investigations.
5. Fog of War (Season 10, Episode 14)
IMDb rating: 8.4/10
This episode introduced viewers to one of the most memorable characters, Waylon Gates, a Texas Ranger with a cowboy hat and spurs and a relentless sense of justice beyond the law. The NYPD has to deal with the antics of the old-school sheriff character, who is a clear reference to Justified's Raylan Givens.
4. This Way Out (Season 3, Episode 23)
IMDb rating: 8.5/10
'This Way Out' is a great parable about what ordinary citizens think of seemingly disinterested bureaucrats (and the lives of others, including police officers) who force people to go to extreme measures.
3. The Blue Templar (Season 1, Episode 22)
IMDb rating: 8.6/10
This powerful episode explores the issue of police corruption, particularly the secret fraternal organization within the department that was responsible for Joe's death.
2. Family Secrets (Season 10, Episode 19)
IMDb rating: 9.0/10
'Family Secrets' introduced a previously unknown member of the Reagan family, Joe Hill. One of the show's most interesting storylines was built around him, uncovering more secrets behind his father Joe's death.
1. My Aim Is True (Season 8, Episode 22)
IMDb rating: 9.1/10
Arguably one of the best episodes of Blue Bloods once again explores the issue of police misconduct, leading to grave consequences and the officers' guilt.
