5 Worst DC TV Shows That Called for James Gunn's Arrival
Even if you're a fan of those shows, you'll agree that they were a disaster.
Since James Gunn's arrival at DC, he has already implemented many changes. First and foremost, the filmmaker has rebooted the franchise in an attempt to revive the studio's popularity.
The following five shows, with their poor acting and ridiculous plots, prove that the director is right to start almost from scratch.
Black Lightning (2018-2021, 4 seasons, 6.1 on IMDb)
This show focuses on the antihero as he resumes his activities after a hiatus and now has to face the consequences of his past sins. BL had a rough start as it was originally developed by Fox but was cancelled after the pilot. The CW then ordered a new pilot and a whole new season.
The show proved to be rather bland and was eventually dropped by the network.
Supergirl (2015-2021, 6 seasons, 6.2 on IMDb)
This show is a prime example of the deterioration of the DC television franchise, commonly referred to as the Arrowverse. The show revolved around Clark Kent's presumed cousin and one of the last surviving Kryptonians as she learned to navigate life on Earth and use her superpowers.
Like the rest of the Arrowverse, Supergirl was too twisted and yet too insubstantial to enjoy.
Legends of Tomorrow (2016-2022, 7 seasons, 6.8 on IMDb)
Another Arrowverse show, this spin-off follows a ragtag group of superheroes and villains as they travel through time on a quest by the Time Master to nip Vandal Savage's rise to power in the bud. The plot is ridiculous and too convoluted to follow. Most importantly, it's just boring, with Sisqo's Thong Song cameo being the most exciting part of the show.
Arrow (2012-2020, 8 seasons, 7.5 on IMDb)
Unlike the other shows on this list, this series was pretty decent at the time of its release. It didn't feature any superpowers or VFX, as its main character was a self-trained vigilante assassin who returns to his hometown after being away for several years. As he fights crime and corruption in Star City, Arrow gets caught up in a more complicated story that eventually spawned the Arrowverse and ruined the show.
The Flash (2014-2023, 9 seasons, 7.5 on IMDb)
The most popular show in the Arrowverse, The Flash is arguably the worst. It centers on Barry Allen, a crime scene investigator who gained the ability to move at supersonic speeds after an accident in a science lab. The show delves too deeply into the time travel trope, resulting in an incomprehensible story. To add insult to injury, the CGI used on The Flash looks too cheap.
