5 Wild Reddit Theories About Queen Charlotte That Prove Bridgerton Fans Are Geniuses
Here's what fans expect from the Bridgerton prequel.
Bridgerton fans are counting down the days until the premiere of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and clearing their schedules for 4 May to ensure nothing stands in the way of binge-watching.
While the plot of the six-episode series remains a mystery, Netflix has released some promotional content that has given fans various ideas about what to expect from the spinoff. Here are five fan theories that sound perfectly plausible.
Lady Danbury
Although the main plot of the prequel is expected to revolve around young Charlotte and her relationship with King George, the cast has hinted in various interviews that other female characters are just as important to the story. Many fans have theorised that the show will include Lady Danbury's backstory.
She is an inspiring, fan-favourite character in Bridgerton, but viewers know little about her past or relationships. The prequel will likely address that.
LGBTQ+ Romance
Bridgerton fans have been cheering for an LGBTQ+ romance on the show for two seasons now, and it appears their calls have been heard. When the trailer for Queen Charlotte was released, eagle-eyed fans noticed a very interesting shot of two gloved male hands touching in a particularly sneaky and romantic way.
Judging by the clothes the two men were wearing, fans concluded that the mysterious couple was none other than King George's valet Reynolds and Queen Charlotte's right-hand man Brimsley. What an exciting pairing!
New Character
We know that the characters of Queen Charlotte and King George are based on real historical figures, and many events of their lives have been reflected on screen.
That's why history-loving fans think the prequel could feature another interesting character, Lady Sarah Lennox, the first love of the real George III. He even tried to marry her, but members of the court disapproved, so he married Charlotte instead. Nevertheless, Lady Lennox was still a part of their lives for some time and would make an interesting addition to the fictional romance.
Prince Regent
Unlike most stories in the romance genre, Queen Charlotte may end tragically with the death of King George. Bridgerton has already shown that his health is failing, and it is only a matter of time before he succumbs to madness or other health issues.
This has led many fans to believe that the Prince Regent, mentioned before but never seen, will appear in the prequel to serve as the new king.
King Charles III
You may be wondering what the current monarch of England has to do with the Netflix show, but the connection is there, and Redditor u/Sparkle_Markle explained it all. The premiere date for Queen Charlotte is 4 May, and the Redditor theorised that it was an international marketing move by the streaming service that seeks to capitalise on public interest in the real-life coronation of King Charles, which will take place on 6 May. Genius!
