Even though most of them have high ratings, they're not talked about enough.
Science fiction is one of the most popular genres. As a result, there are hundreds of sci-fi shows to watch. But with so much to choose from, it's hard to find anything good. In fact, even the best shows can get lost in the shuffle.
These five sci-fi series may not be the talk of the town, but they are shining examples of the genre.
La Brea (2021-2024, 3 seasons, 5.8 on IMDb)
The NBC sci-fi drama follows the events of a giant sinkhole that appears in the La Brea area of Los Angeles and swallows thousands of people, buildings and cars there. Those who survive the disaster end up in a strange and dangerous place reminiscent of prehistoric tales. The show centers on Eve, Gavin, Izzy, and Josh Harris, who were separated by the event and are trying to find their way back to each other and the normal world.
The Rig (2023-present, 1 season, 5.8 on IMDb)
Starring Schitt's Creek's Emily Hampshire and Game of Thrones' Iain Glen, this Amazon original sci-fi thriller revolves around the crew of an oil rig in the North Sea off the coast of Scotland. One day, the platform is engulfed in a mysterious fog that cuts off all communication with the rest of the world and turns out to be spreading spores that alter their host's behavior upon contact, leading the characters to believe they've inadvertently unleashed an ancient parasitic organism while drilling for oil.
Warehouse 13 (2009-2014, 5 seasons, 7.6 on IMDb)
Syfy's sci-fi comedy-drama revolves around a group of field agents whose job it is to find mysterious artifacts that can give their owners superhuman powers, which come with great risk if used improperly. As they hunt for the items to neutralize them, they store them in the titular location, the latest in a series of warehouses with infinite storage capacity that have been used for this purpose for thousands of years.
The Expanse (2015-2022, 6 seasons, 8.5 on IMDb)
Adapted from James S.A. Corey's cycle of novels of the same name, and set in a distant future where humanity has expanded its reach throughout the Solar system, the Syfy/Amazon Prime series follows several characters whose lives are intertwined by fate. UN Security Council Secretary Chrisjen Avasarala must prevent a full-blown war with Mars. Meanwhile, Detective Joe Miller is on a mission to find a missing woman. And both end up working to solve a conspiracy on a galactic scale.
Battlestar Galactica (2003-2009, 4 season, 8.7 on IMDb)
Set in the Twelve Colonies of Kobol, a group of planets in a distant star system inhabited by humans, the Sci-Fi (Syfy) series centers on the few survivors of an android attack on the human population. The survivors find shelter on the titular spaceship, the only military vessel that seems to have withstood the attack, and travel through space in search of a thirteenth colony, Earth.
