One of the most important periods for the United States and North America in general is, of course, the colonial history, which combines both the heroism of the people who fought for freedom and the darker moments of the extermination of the indigenous population and the exploitation of black people.
One of the best shows to portray life in the Colonies well was the last four seasons of Outlander: despite the fantasy elements, the show did an excellent job of capturing both the domestic joys and the global horrors of the late 18th century, ending with the Second Battle of Saratoga. Produced for the History Channel, this miniseries is, as the title suggests, about the Sons of Liberty, the origins of the Continental Army that enabled the Colonies to obtain their independence from the British Empire. Set primarily in Boston, the series follows the bloody events from the founding of the Sons of Liberty to the Declaration of Independence.
3. The Book of Negroes (2015, miniseries)
Based on the novel of the same name by Lawrence Hill, The Book of Negroes recounts the unpleasant events of American colonial history that must not be forgotten. This heartbreaking story tells of a West African woman who was enslaved by the colonists but managed to escape and join the Black Loyalists who collaborated with the British abolitionists.

The American War of Independence closed a chapter in North American colonial history, and much of the Colonies' victory was secured by a network of spies known as the Culper Ring, organized by Major Benjamin Tallmadge and General George Washington.
