5 Things We Loved About Virgin River Season 5 (Less Charmaine, For One)
The new installment isn't as bad as we first thought.
Though Virgin River has been one of Netflix's most popular dramas since its 2019 premiere, it has received a lot of flak from viewers and critics. From its ambiguous timeline to unappealing characters, the show has a lot of problems. Despite this, it is still very much beloved by hordes of fans. So much so that the Virgin River has spanned five seasons, the most recent of which was released almost a month ago.
Despite the show's many shortcomings, season 5 proved to be popular with the audience. In fact, many people have pointed out that the Netflix drama has improved in its fifth installment.
Here are just five nice things about the latest season of Virgin River.
5. Less Petty Charmaine
Apart from the drug dealers, Virgin River doesn't seem to have any other antagonists. However, Charmaine has a legitimate claim to that title. Jack Sheridan's ex, this scheming woman will go to great lengths to get what she wants. Not surprisingly, she is the most hated character on the show. Fortunately, her screen time is limited in season 5 and fans really appreciate it.
4. Nicer Hope
Unlike Charmaine, Hope isn't really despised by the audience. Instead, the long-time mayor of Virgin River is found to be extremely annoying with her antics and tantrums. In season 5, Hope behaves more maturely and appropriately.
3. Action-Packed
With devastating wildfires sweeping through Virgin River, there's a lot going on in the town this season. Viewers seem to be enjoying it, as the show's storytelling has become more intense and filled with events of all kinds – from losing homes to finding the body of a missing man in the woods.
2. Realistic Relationship Dynamics
While Virgin River is first and foremost a romantic drama, it also offers non-soap opera portrayals of human relationships. In season 5, the dynamics between the show's characters are even more lifelike than before, which means they may be less fun or dramatic to watch, but they are more artistically satisfying. For example, Mel and Jack's romance is free of rough patches.
1. Heart-rending Drama
Speaking of which, Virgin River Season 5 doesn't shy away from such morbid topics as miscarriage. The epitome of this installment, this storyline has viewers focusing on Mel's personal drama that brought us to the show in the first place.
