It's not as good as SATC but it doesn't deserve the scathing criticism.

Arguably, Sex and the City is one of the best HBO productions. The story of four friends from New York has fascinated viewers for twenty-five years. Its humour and genuinely female perspective on life made it popular once and for all. In contrast, its successor, the sequel And Just Like That…, doesn't seem to resonate with fans on the same level.

People had mixed reactions to the spin-off when it premiered in 2020. Lacking several central characters and introducing numerous new ones, it told a completely different story. In this light, the viewers' disappointment is understandable. However, And Just Like That… isn't altogether terrible.

Here are just five reasons why your hatred might be misplaced.

1. It's light-hearted watching

Just like the original show, AJLT isn't a serious, thought-provoking show that will make you contemplate the mysteries of life. Instead, it offers easy and relaxing viewing, with plenty of comic relief. Admittedly, it's not as spot-on as SATC's, but it's perfectly suitable for an evening after a long, tiresome day.

2. It brings people together

Few would doubt that Sex and the City is a cultural phenomenon. Its legacy lives on twenty-five years after its release. Several generations have seen it. Thus, the story that And Just Like That… is based on unites them, serving as a rare common ground in our highly siloed society of isolated echo chambers and cultural niches.

3. It evokes nostalgia

While nostalgia is not everyone's cup of tea, some people enjoy it. AJLT can definitely make you feel nostalgic. Even more so, if you believe that SATC was better…

4. It shows familiar faces

Seeing all the familiar faces will inevitably prompt you to reminisce about the original show, its characters and their stories that you were so invested in all those years ago. Even though AJLT does not feature all of them, there are more than enough to cheer you up.

5. Samantha

Just one word. The most missed character is making a highly anticipated appearance at the end of season 2. Yes, it will be brief, but it's definitely worth waiting for and can give the struggling spin-off a new lease on life. After all, Samantha has always been an embodiment of vivacity in the franchise.

Naturally, the choice is always yours; the thing is, though, AJLT is not all bad, it's just worse than SATC, and if you're willing to give it another chance, the next episode is out on 29 June.
