5 Reasons Why Frasier Fans Hate the Reboot So Much
It's hard to argue with these pretty logical points.
It's been a day since another episode of the Frasier reboot premiered, but the show continues to struggle to win over viewers. While much of this can be attributed to nostalgia for the classic sitcom, there are solid reasons why fans are buying into the new show.
Here are just five reasons why the new Frasier is failing to impress.
Poor Writing
Obviously, the ultimate stumbling block of the Frasier revival is the quality of the writing. Many viewers feel that it doesn't measure up to the original show. In other words, the new sitcom is uninteresting and unengaging, which largely turns off the audience. Perhaps the next few points will prove this in more detail.
Carefree Life
The reboot of Frasier seems to have made the same mistake as And Just Like That by making its central character too rich to have any problems in life whatsoever. Thus, Frasier moves to Boston, where the revival takes place, a rich man who can afford to buy a large apartment on a whim. As a result, he has no struggles to add zest to the show, except for his relationship with his son.
Lack of a Rival
On the original Frasier, most of the comic situations came from Frasier butting heads with other characters. Primarily, Niles was the one who drew the ire of Dr. Crane – much to the delight of the audience. Frasier's upstairs neighbor also provided a lot of conflict for laughs. And Lilith, the mother of Frasier's son, served as a vehicle for the show's plot-building conflict.
So far, the revamped sitcom lacks such characters. Needless to say, viewers miss them.
Immature Humor
While we cannot say that the original Frasier was very mature in the humor department, it still had more complex jokes, and its comedic situations offered ample comic relief to the audience without being too childish and simple. For instance, many viewers state that the side characters on the reboot act as if they were silly teens no matter their actual age.
Moreover, the revived Frasier's jokes aren't as witty. And that's a dealbreaker for most fans.
Freddy
Ultimately, the audience finds the other main character on the new show super annoying. Apart from the choice of the actor, many people are put off by Frederick's personality.
'New Freddy is cranky, unfunny, kind of mean, and unlikeable. The new show is trying to make him like Martin but forgetting that Freddy is supposed to be in his 30s (when being grumpy is not cute at all) and isn't an old man. Also, they didn't really give Freddy any redeeming qualities like Marty had,' one Redditor wrote.
Hopefully, the Frasier reboot will prove worthy in the coming episodes. Episode 7 is scheduled for November 16.
