It may even fix some past shortcomings.

The Twilight fandom appears to have accepted that a new TV show based on the iconic vampire book series by Stephenie Meyer is currently in the preliminary stages of development at Lionsgate Television.

While it might seem that only Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner could portray the famed supernatural love triangle, the new project has the potential to attract new audiences and even improve on the original series. Here's why.

1. Deepen the Characterisation of the Protagonists

Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black are central to the Twilight franchise's immense popularity. However, those familiar with Meyer's writing could tell you that the characters in the books have much greater depth than their film counterparts.

With the luxury of more screen time, the new TV adaptation can offer richer, more nuanced portrayals of these beloved protagonists, enhancing their relatability and dramatic appeal.

2. Make the Romantic Conflict More Interesting

The Team Edward vs. Team Jacob debate was a big part of the original franchise. Yet, it could be even bigger. The love triangle, a narrative device adored by many, is richly explored in Meyer's novels. While the film series made the ultimate pairing somewhat predictable, the books paint a far more ambiguous picture.

Thus, the new series could go to town with a possible pairing of Bell and Jacob, taking the main conflict of the series to the next level.

3. Delve Deeper into the Universe

It wasn't until Breaking Dawn Part 2 that audiences met various vampire covens from across the globe. This exploration was arguably one of the highlights of the entire series. A more thorough examination of the Twilight world, home to vampires, werewolves, and other mystical entities, could be something for die-hard Twilight fans to look forward to.

4. Address the Predecessor's Shortcomings

For the new adaptation to succeed, it must rectify the original's flaws. Eliminating controversial elements like imprinting on children, questionable relationship dynamics, and, notably, the misrepresentation of the Quileute tribe will ensure the new series stands on stronger ground.

5. Maintain the Darker Tone of the Original

Series like Wednesday and Stranger Things highlight a contemporary fascination with a dark, even gothic, cinematic atmosphere. Luckily, the Twilight movies encapsulated this moody ambience, amplified by a memorable soundtrack. Retaining this essence while tailoring the vampire narrative to better appeal to today's audiences could certainly help the new series become a huge hit.
