5 Reasons Ted Lasso Season 4 Would Be a Disaster (Despite Us Wanting It)
Rumors are swirling that Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed interest in bringing back the beloved series Ted Lasso for a fourth season.
While fans are eager for more of the endearing, feel-good series, continuing the hit comedy may not be a good idea after all.
As much as we want to see Ted and his lovable crew on our screens again, here are five reasons why a fourth season of Ted Lasso would be a disaster.
Feel Like Milking the Series Dry
Ted Lasso has already told a heartwarming and complete story throughout its three seasons. With each passing season, there is a real risk of diluting the show's quality and charm, potentially making a fourth season feel desperate and unnecessary. Adding more to the series at this point would result in a watered-down version of what made the show so special to begin with.
It Would Ruin the Perfect Ending
The third season finale of Ted Lasso, although not to everyone's liking, at least left fans with a sense of fulfillment and closure. Not only did it beautifully wrapped up Ted’s journey, but provided a satisfying conclusion to the show.
Another season would undermine the emotional impact of season three’s last episode. Is it not better to let the story rest on a high note rather than risk a disappointing follow-up?
It's a Blatant Money Grab by Apple
Bringing back the supposedly concluded series might be perceived as a cynical money grab by Apple TV. The show has become a flagship series for the streaming platform, earning critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. If a fourth season lacked the same heart as the series had previously, it would come across as simply exploiting the show's popularity for more subscriptions and likely turning fans against it in the process.
The Curse of Cast Changes
One essential ingredient that makes Ted Lasso so delightful is its stellar ensemble cast. The chemistry between the actors is palpable and has played a significant role in the show's success. However, securing the entire original cast for another season might prove challenging. History has shown that when shows tinker with the format, such as the painful final season of Scrubs, the result is often a pale imitation of its former glory.
A Richmond Spin-off Would be Better
Instead of continuing Ted Lasso's story, why not explore a spin-off series focused on the aftermath of Ted's departure instead, which might be more worthwhile? Possibly even titled 'The Richmond Way'?
This spin-off could delve into the lives of the remaining characters as they navigate the challenges of running the club without their beloved coach. It could provide an excellent opportunity to expand the universe while allowing Ted Lasso's legacy to live on without diminishing the show’s original brilliance.
While the prospect of a fourth season of Ted Lasso may seem enticing, it has to be remembered that there can always be too much of a good thing. After all, the show has already achieved greatness, and attempting to further extend its story could jeopardize its legacy. Sometimes, the best series are the ones that know when to say goodbye.
