Bygones must stay bygones.

We are in the midst of Season 3 of the show, which is rapidly nearing its conclusion. Given the lingering romantic tension between Keeley and Roy, Ted Lasso fans can't help speculating about whether the two will find their way back to each other.

The thing is, though, there are at least five good reasons why that's a very bad idea.

  1. Roy isn’t ready for romance.

Roy Kent's journey to find his place in the world has been a recurring theme since the first episode of Ted Lasso. Despite having matured and mellowed over time, he remains tremendously insecure. Hence, plunging him into another relationship might be an unfair burden on his partner.

  1. Both characters have evolved into very different people by now.

While it's undeniable that Keeley and Roy once shared incredible chemistry, complementing each other in many ways, much has changed since they first hooked up. The two characters have evolved distinctly from who they once were. Chances are their new and improved versions will be incompatible.

  1. The way Roy treated Keely was absolutely atrocious.

As much as we hate to bring it up, it has to be noted that in Episode 8 of Season 8, Roy displayed a much darker, far less appealing side. When Keeley faced turmoil because of a private photo leak, Roy's visit was not out of a desire to support his ex during a difficult time but to question her about the intended recipient of the pictures.

This incident has indelibly tarnished both Keeley's and our view of him.

  1. Keeley needs to learn to be happy on her own.

Keeley really has to learn how to not depend on somebody else to make her happy. Her history of hopping from one relationship to another gives the impression of a certain level of immaturity. She doesn't need another romance; instead, she needs to develop into a more self-reliant individual.

  1. Their story needs an open-ended conclusion.

Season 3 is expected to tie up all loose ends, seeing how it's the last season. However, an open-ended finale would allow the characters to continue their lives beyond the show. In this respect, reuniting Keeley and Roy might seem like a convenient resolution to their story arcs, but it could ultimately do them a disservice.

With three episodes to go, Keeley and Roy's future remains uncertain. The next episode will be released on 17 May.
