Are you as excited as we are for the Penelope-Colin season?

The upcoming Season 3 of Netflix's hit show Bridgerton will focus on the love story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington — and this story is set to be the most captivating yet.

Here's why.

Main characters

The Bridgerton creators don't need to waste screen time introducing the universe and the two main characters in Season 3, as fans already fell in love with both Colin and Pen during the first two seasons. They already feel like the leads. So the new eight episodes can be completely devoted to developing their love story, which allows the writers to make it as twisted and interesting as possible.

Friends-to-lovers

Not surprisingly, Colin and Penelope as a couple have garnered a huge, dedicated fan base even before their solo season premiered. They are a rare example of a successful friends-to-lovers trope that viewers love so much, but creators find difficult to execute.

The trope comes with its own set of challenges, such as how to realistically pull a character out of the friend zone, or how to show passion growing out of an innocent childhood friendship. Colin and Penelope's relationship should have all of that, and at its best.

Lady Whistledown

No one will deny that Lady Whistledown's narration has become the centerpiece of Netflix's romantic series. That's why Season 3 is bound to be a challenge for the writers. Penelope's secret writing hobby will have to be revealed to a wider group of characters, if not the whole ton.

But how will the creators deal with both saving the narrative and making Pen worthy of a happy ending? If done right, this should be the most intriguing storyline in the show.

Character growth

Given her Lady Whistledown persona, gripping personality, and troubled family history, Penelope is already one of the show's best-developed characters. However, the new season will see her undergo significant character growth, coming out of her cocoon of helplessness and self-doubt and becoming the woman she has always wanted to be. She also needs to have a redemption arc after some of the things she's done in the past.

Colin will also have to transition from his innocent, boyish self into worthy husband material, which is always exciting to watch. On top of that, both characters will have a big glow-up moment that, let's face it, we all live for.

Source material

The best proof that Season 3 will be the most interesting yet is the popularity of the novel it is based on, Julia Quinn's Romancing Mister Bridgerton. Many fans have included it in their personal top lists, saying it has the spiciest scenes in the book series.

Well, it seems like we have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming season.
