5 Reasons Blue Bloods Season 13 Should Have Been The Show Last
As great as the show has been, 13 seasons seems too much.
In 2010, Blue Bloods debuted as one of the finest police procedurals, attracting even those not particularly interested in the genre. The story of the Reagan family, with its long history in law enforcement, captivated people with its stellar cast and intriguing characters.
It also offered a fresh perspective on the old police procedural tropes, dealing with family relationships and ethical issues set against the backdrop of the NYPD.
Sadly, though, the plot began stagnating as new seasons were released. Despite excellent performances from stars like Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg, fans believe the story could have been wrapped up a long time ago. Here's why this season should have been the last:
5. Erin's story has lost its edge
Erin's long history with the New York County District Attorney's Office made it apparent that her promotion to full District Attorney status was inevitable. However, this season, she finally runs for the DA's office, and people don't care anymore.
The arc has dragged on for the entire season, and we are left watching Erin waver on whether she wants to be DA or not. Disappointing!
4. Eddie has become annoying
Eddie Janko-Reagan was initially a fan darling, but her marriage to Jamie, unfortunately, ruined her storyline due to their lack of chemistry. Moreover, her acting like a detective while being a beat cop grew old very fast. Just give her a promotion!
3. Joe Hill is the biggest missed opportunity
The young cop proved to be one of the best additions to the show, injecting new life into it. This time, Joe and his grandfather Frank faced a conflict of interest in hiding the fact that Joseph's grave had been vandalised from the family, with only a handful of people daring to question the seasoned commissioner's decisions!
They should have made Joe a recurring character, though, as he is one of the few things that keep viewers watching the show.
2. Family drama has come to a dead end
It's important to remember that Blue Bloods is, first and foremost, a show about family. However, by season 13, the relationship between the Reagans had been reduced to dinners where discussions only served to advance a particular storyline in a given episode. The family members hardly interacted throughout the season, resulting in a lack of family dynamics.
1. Thirteen seasons is a season too far
As we wait for the 14th season and hope for better writing and character development, we can't help but wonder if this particular show's been on the air too long as it is, seeing how the plotlines keep running out of steam and we’re finding it more and more difficult to care about them.
