If you are watching Outlander for the first time, consider skipping these episodes.

Outlander Season 7 is just around the corner, and fans of the time-traveling period drama are binge-watching the first six seasons to refresh their memories. But even for those who have seen the story of nurse Claire who travels to the past, some scenes can be difficult to rewatch.

For the most part, Outlander stays true to its source material, Diana Gabaldon's book series, which in turn is written to be authentic to the time period it describes, Scotland in the 1700s. This results in incredible period settings, beautiful language, and gorgeous costumes, but also leads to some highly disturbing scenes of violence and sexual abuse.

Scenes like this pop up a few times a season, and they often come out of the blue — so it's always good to be prepared. Here are five Outlander episodes that left fans feeling queasy after the first viewing.

To Ransom a Man's Soul (S1E16)

For many fans, the Season 1 finale is the series' most hard-to-watch. The episode shows highly graphic and disturbing flashbacks of the torture that the main character, Jamie Fraser, went through at the hands of the show's antagonist, Black Jack Randall, including physical, psychological, and sexual abuse. Even though it's the first season's finale, you may like to fast-forward the scene or skip it altogether.

Season 2 also features some gut-wrenching episodes. One of them is Episode 4, which takes place in Paris, France. The episode shows the violent sexual assault of a 15-year-old character, Mary Hawkins, by a gang of attackers. The series' protagonist, Claire Fraser, is also attacked but not violated.

Faith (S2E7)

The sexual assault of minors doesn't stop there. In Episode 7, Black Jack Randall shows his ugly face again. This time, he abuses Claire and Jamie's adopted son, Fergus, whom he catches stealing. Although this scene is shown in flashbacks, it is harrowing and left many fans in a state of emotional turmoil. As if Fergus' abuse was not enough to skip the episode, it also features a heartbreaking scene of Claire giving birth to a stillborn child.

Wilmington (S4E8)

This episode shows another violent scene of sexual abuse. Here, the victim is Claire and Jamie's daughter Bree and the perpetrator is Stephen Bonnet, another villain who can easily compete with Black Jack. Fans who have seen this scene once prefer to block it out of their minds.

Never My Love (S5E12)

Of course, the show's protagonist couldn't escape the horrific realities of the past, and Season 5 features a dreadful scene that comes close to the Season 1 finale. Claire is kidnapped, tortured, and sexually assaulted by a group of men. Jamie manages to rescue his wife, but the graphic scene and its psychological aftermath are too unsettling to watch again.
