5 Most Iconic Bridgerton Moments That Aren't There in the Books
These five prove that the Netflix show is a masterpiece.
Everyone knows that Netflix's Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn's novel series of the same name. But it's worth noting that the show doesn't follow the books to the letter. For example, these five moments are nowhere to be found in the books.
Kate and Anthony's Horse Race
The opening episode of Season 2 gave us one of the best scenes in Bridgerton. Kate and Anthony's first formal encounter in the books was pretty boring compared to their horse race competition on the show. In short, Anthony lost to Kate, which gave her a reason to ridicule him for the rest of the season. More importantly, she humbled him, which sparked their romance.
Penelope's Bond with Genevieve Delacroix
Madame Delacroix, aka the Ton's most revered dressmaker, is absent from Julia Quinn's novels, which is a shame, since she's part of some of the most satisfying character arcs. In particular, Genevieve's collaboration with Penelope Featherington in her Lady Whistledown business is one of the most exciting storylines on Bridgerton. In addition to serving as Whistledown's deliverer, Delacroix provided Penelope with fresh gossip in exchange for flattering publicity.
Kanthony's Dance to Calum Scott's Dancing on My Own
There are many factors behind Bridgerton's popularity, but one of the main features of the show is that it makes use popular music and turns it into Regency-era pieces. Of course, that can't happen in the books. Considering that Anthony and Kate's first dance was to the violin concerto version of Calum Scott's Dancing on My Own, it was a treat to watch.
Anthony's Proposal to Kate
In the novels, Kate and Anthony are somewhat forced into marriage by their families and the Ton. Needless to say, their arc isn't very loving. On Bridgerton, however, the two characters had time to develop feelings for each other. And despite the fact that there was some cold reasoning behind Anthony's proposal, it was a heartfelt moment when he confessed his affection for Kate.
Colin's Swooning over Penelope
The upcoming third season will focus on Colin and Penelope's love arc, which most fans are really excited about. This is interesting because, in the novels, Colin doesn't seem all that interested in Penelope – there's no chemistry between the characters and nothing to suggest a future together. In that sense, Bridgerton has nailed the build-up to this moment.
