Into the Badlands
While Into the Badlands may not have as much mysticism and magic, it is full of incredible martial arts sequences, and does include some fantasy elements. Set in a post-apocalyptic future ruled by ruthless Barons and their armies, a skilled warrior named Sunny joins a quest after meeting a young boy with mysterious powers. With a rich world and compelling storyline, the series is action-packed, visually stunning, and sure to capture your attention with the same intensity as WoT.
Shadow and Bone
Like WoT, Shadow and Bone is based on a series of novels set in the Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo. It also follows similar themes of secret magical abilities, focussing on a young orphaned woman named Alina Starkov, who discovers she possesses a unique power that could change the fate of her world. As well as introducing its own complex world of politics, power struggles, and dark forces, the series provides a rich imagined universe with some compelling characters.
Legend of the Seeker
Created by Sam Raimi and based on the fantasy book series 'The Sword of Truth' by Terry Goodkind, Legend of the Seeker dives straight into a world of sorcery, heroics, and destiny. The series follows an old wizard, an enchanted confessor, and a young man fated to bring peace to the land and overthrow an evil tyrant. Legend of the Seeker is filled with loveable characters, an intriguing fantasy world, and a playful tone, which keeps you instantly hooked.
The Witcher: Blood Origin
Although you likely know of Henry Cavill's extremely successful The Witcher, you may not have heard of Netflix's stand-alone spin-off series, Blood Origin. Set as a sequel to The Witcher series, this original story explores the first creation of the Witchers and the events that led up to the Conjunction of the Spheres. In a similar style to WoT, the series features a band of unlikely misfits who together become destined for great things that will affect the world as they know it.
The Letter for the King
The Letter for the King is a coming-of-age fantasy series based on the Dutch novel by Tonke Dragt. It follows Tiuri, a young squire, who embarks on a perilous journey to deliver a secret letter that could prevent a war and save his kingdom; discovering his own courage and destiny along the way. The series combines action and mystery, not dissimilar from the setting of WoT, but with a slightly younger main cast. Nevertheless, The Letter for the King provides a gripping tale of adventure that will keep you thoroughly entertained.
