5 Lesser-Known Fantasy Series on Netflix to Binge This Weekend

Thanks to the advent of streaming services, there are a lot of new fantasy shows these days. In fact, there are so many that you may have missed some of them.

These five Netflix originals may have flown under your radar.

The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022, 1 season, 4.9 on IMDb)

With an unusually low score for The Witcher series, this prequel is a crash course in the history of the magical world in which the story is set, and in elven history in particular. Written by Jaskier from the oral history of the enigmatic elf Seanchai, the story takes place 1200 years before the events of The Witcher and explores the fall of the ancient elven civilization of Xin'trea and the creation of the first witcher.

Cursed (2020, 1 season, 6.0 on IMDb)

Adapted from the graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, this fantasy series is a reimagining of the Arthurian legends focusing on Nimue. On the show, Nimue is a young and courageous woman who possesses an extraordinary gift. After the death of her mother, she embarks on a quest to bring a legendary sword to Merlin. Accompanied by a young mercenary, Arthur, Nimue must endure constant danger from the vicious Red Paladins who terrorize the land.

Shadow and Bone (2021-2023, 2 seasons, 7.5 on IMDb)

Based on Leigh Bardugo's cycle of novels in the Grishaverse franchise, this fantasy series follows Alina Starkov, a cartographer for the First Army of the Ravka Nation, who discovers that she is a prophesied hero with an extraordinary gift that can unite the world divided by darkness. However, various powers aren't exactly thrilled with the idea of changing the order of the world they're comfortably running.

Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself (2022, 1 season, 7.5 on IMDb)

Adapted from Sally Green's novel, Half Bad centers on Nathan Byrne, a young man who one day discovers that he is the illegitimate son of Marcus Edge, considered one of the most powerful and dangerous sorcerers in the world. Unbeknownst to him, Nathan becomes embroiled in a war between two clans of witches, forcing him to join two other young witches, Annalise and Gabriel, on a life-threatening quest to learn his true identity and the ways of sorcery.

Dead Boy Detectives (2024, 1 season, 7.6 on IMDb)

Set somewhere in the DC Comics universe, Netflix's latest fantasy comedy-drama revolves around Charles and Edwin, two teenagers who died tragically but chose not to go to the afterlife. Instead, they stayed in our world as ghosts and began investigating various cases and crimes involving the supernatural, all the while escaping Death.
